reference something in common app essay in supplement?

So I wrote this gigantic, well-developed essay about my very "diverse" life traveling from China to Canada and the United States. Then I realized that the Rochester supplement asks about how the applicant will contribute to Rochester's diversity, and also detail a time when we did chose our own learning path.

So my questions are,

1)does the same person read my common app stuff and supplement?

2)if so, would it be okay for me to reference the content in my common app essay (by saying something like "in addition to my diverse traveling experiences...") and then focus on detailing the time when I chose my own learning path in my supplement?

Thank you~!!

Also, this is on a totally unrelated subject, but is it still possible to schedule interviews this late in the admissions cycle (off-campus?) the website seems to be acting up.

Yes, that seems fine, as long as you don’t repeat the same general underlying message. I’m not sure if the same person reads it or if it’s someone else, but just make these two distinct without having to mention one or the other in each of the essays.

With regards to the interview, I would call the office or email the admissions office with an off-campus interview (your interview would likely be a phone interview). Are you an international student?

Nope, I’m not international, I live in New Jersey.

I would not hesitate to use the same information in your essay on your supplement as well. Yes, the same individual is going to review both items, but having an experience that is critical to understanding of the value of diversity is important, and may very well deserve the attention of the essay and the supplement. In other words, don’t over think it… It is fine if your supplement briefly restates much of what was described in your essay, but be sure that it does demonstrate some level of independent thought.
