Refrigerators in the dorms?

Are refrigerators provided in the dorm rooms, or do student have to bring their own?

fridges are provided in every room, but not microwaves

Are these refrigerators in pretty good shape? And can you bring your own anyway? My son will be in Kellum Hall, and the room dimensions seem rather, um, cozy. Is there much floor room to accomodate other large personal item (like a fridge?).

It says on the housing web site:

Room Refrigerators -
There is a refrigerator in each student room. No other refrigerator or freezer is allowed. Residents are responsible for cleaning their refrigerator on a regular basis and before they vacate their room.

When we received the CARPET SALES information for the FTIC dorm rooms they gave the dimensions for what size carpet fits in each dorm. This should help you determine the size you have to work with. You can use bed lifts to raise your bed and store some things under your bed like a safe or plastic drawers.

6x9 Kellum, Salley, Smith
7x12 Deviney
9x12 Broward, Bryan, Gilchrist, Jennie Murphree
10x12 Cawthorn, Dorman, Landis, Reynolds

I did see a bit more information in the maintenance section of the housing web site about refrigerators.

May I bring an additional refrigerator?

No, University Housing provides one refrigerator for each room. Two are provided for residents living in rooms designated as triples. If an additional refrigerator is necessary due to a medical condition please contact University Housing prior to your arrival for the necessary information.

How large are the refrigerators?

The community and suite style rooms have small refrigerators with small freezers. Each refrigerator is 4.0 cubic feet. Residents in apartment style facilities have a full size refrigerator for each apartment.

More information about space under the beds:

In Broward, Cawthon, Deviney, Gilchrist, Jennie Murphree, Reynolds, McCollum and Rogers, the bed springs are adjustable to allow storage under the bed. The top adjustment will allow 30 inches of vertical storage under the spring. Also, these beds can be bunked. Please contact your Hall Manager if you do not have bunking pins in your room.

The beds in Bryan, Jennie Murphree and Dorman Hall are not adjustable. Also, the beds in Smith and Kellum are built in.

The beds in Salley Hall are adjustable but due to configuration of the suite, the beds will normally remain bunked.

Lofts are only permitted in Dorman and Deviney Halls.
