Regarding graduate engineering admissions

Hey guys,

What does it mean when the graduate schools have rolling admissions? Does it mean that if I applied in november, I can know the result in december (or sooner)? Some schools like Georgia Tech, UT - Austin, Texas A&M, etc all have rolling admissions. Also, I was wondering if the graduate schools require you to submit the grades you received in the first semester of senior year? Because, if you apply in october or november, there would be no way to submit the 7th semester grades before the colleges look at your application.

Yes, that’s more or less what it means - the school accepts applications across an extended period and reviews applications more-or-less continuously during this time. The committees have a good idea what to look for and can pull out most of the admits as they apply, filling in the remaining spots towards the end.

As an applicant, applying early gets your name in front of the committee earlier which is generally to your advantage - unless you need your current semester grades for a gpa boost. Bear in mind that you may not hear back from the school for a long time - even with rolling admissions it is a very individual process and it may take a while for them to find spots for even the “slam dunk” applicants.
