The title is self-explanatory :)
I always hear it around, but never knew. Can someone please elaborate a bit on it? More people the better :)

rolling admissioins means there is no specific deadline that you need to hand in your application by.

it also means (logically) that the sooner you hand in your application, the better shot you have of getting into that college, since they have less of a pool to work with.

Rolling admissions means that they start reading the applications and making admissions decisions as the applications roll in. Quite a few state universities operate this way. They accumulate the first wave of applications, then make admissions decisions on those, then the next wave, etc. For a very competitive school like Michigan, the earlier you get your application in, the better chance you have, particularly if you are from out-of-state.

Rolling admissions decisions are not binding.

They are not binding, but a school like Havard, which has restictive rolling admissions, won't let you apply to any other school with rolling admissions until they make a decision on your application.

Irishforever explained it well, but I wanted to add that rolling admission decisions are considered "regular decisions," not EA and not ED. It's all one big round at these schools! This allows you to apply early to rolling admissions schools even if you are applying SCEA or ED to other schools. As the others have said, there is a big difference in your likelihood of acceptance if you submit your application in October as opposed to January. Also, the state school application are not difficult, but they do help you learn how to do an application, so writing a couple of them early on improves your later applications.

THANKS guys :) Could anyone give me a simple list of the main schools that do this?
Do the UC's do this?? :) thanks

hi protege, long time no see in MSN!

I've heard UCLA and UCB don't have rolling admissions. Maybe all the UCs don't

UCs have a universal deadline of 11/30. That means you do one application for ALL UCs and turn it in on that date.

Few school that have rolling admissions:
-University of Michigan
-University of Illinois
-University of Wisconsin
-Indiana University
-USC (kind of)
-University of Maryland (sort of)
-Penn State University (I think)
etc. etc.
