Hi I am an admitted student as an undeclared engineering major at Georgia Tech:

1st: Can I select Biomedical Engineering as my major since it is a joint program between Emory and Georgia Tech??

2nd: At the end of 4 years, will I get a degree from both Georgia Tech and Emory or just Georgia Tech alone?

Please answer these questions if you know the right answers to it, as this is an important factor in my decisions regarding college prior to May 1st...

Thanks

You can declare Biomedical Engineering as your major. The undergraduate BME program is solely run by Georgia Tech (although there is the potential to do research with Emory professors as an undergrad) and if you complete the requirements for the BME degree, you will receive a degree from Georgia Tech.

However, if you want to take classes at Emory, you can cross enroll (Georgia Tech provides a shuttle to Emory’s campus), but the only way to receive a degree from Emory is to be admitted into one of their degree granting schools and complete the majority of your requirements there.

I am not sure why you would want an engineering degree from Emory (which does not have an engineering program) instead of Georgia Tech, which has one of the top 4 engineering schools in the nation?

Dude BME is a major at GT that you can declare. Only those who go to Emory and do the dual degree program get a degree from Emory, and one from Tech. Needless to say this is very difficult, but a decent option for those who prefer a second major in the liberal arts or natural sciences (NBB and biology here are extremely strong, along with Psychology and Anthropology).

Thank you guys for the information, really appreciate it…
