"you have sex for a reason, and homosexuals don't have that incentive...homosexual relations make sex out to be a leisurely activity for the sole purpose of pleasure..."

thats the reason for a lot of heterosexuals, especially college students

so people should only have sex in order to make babies?
as a girl, I'd like to say, that sounds like NO FUN.

even if you disagree with homosexuality itself, long-term monogamous gay couples deserve the same rights as straight couples, such as filing taxes jointly and visiting at bedsides and such.

"there are no valid reasons against allowing gay marriage.
period."

YEAH SURE, God is just not a good enough reason eh? thats too bad.
And actually its the other way around. I would like you to state your reason(s) for wanting to allow gay marriage. My one reason is good enough for me.

Just an interesting note: I was flipping through the channels one night and happened upon a documentry. I think it was talking about marriages or something like that. Anyway, one thing that surprised me, was that until about the 1960s, inter-racial marriages were illegal in some states in the US. The reason? "It was against God's will."

I personally feel that a person should be allowed to marry whomever they please. If a religion feels strongly against gay marriage, then the people of that religion can choose not to marry or support people who are gay. Why should the beliefs of a few dominate the lives of everyone else?

Now, I'm not religious, but doesn't it say somewhere in the Bible, that all men were created equal? As in everyone regardless of sexual orientation, race, gender, etc.?

Get off the gay people, its not marriage, maybe they should get their head checked and actually be normal and lead a normal life without PUTTING THEMSELVES into the crossfire. When abortion is made illegal, because it is murder, then maybe we can consider giving homos their rights for a FAKE marriage.

I personally dont think religion should be factor when making laws. neither do I see any laws being imposed for religious reasons. For example, pornography is againt Christianity and yet children under 18 still have access to them but the yet the government has done nothing to stop this. Religion is just an excuse for conservatives for prevent gays from having equal rights. Most Americans are not religious anyways. And how can you expect religious ideals be imposed by a drunk maniac like Bush?

" God is just not a good enough reason eh?"
Wow, you will go to heaven from just saying that? Do you consider yourself an angel? Give me a break!

The following post is an attack on the government officials, it is NOT AN ATTACK on ANY POSTERS OF THIS FORUM.

I am Hindu. AND I am sick and tired of Politicians of other religious affiliations trying to impose their beliefs of anti-gayness on everyone else!

The US has no right to discriminate against ppl just because they are not ideal Christians/Whatever in their choice of marriage. Bush and the anti-gay fundamentalist FANATICS in Government need to get it through their thick heads that church and state ought to be seperate. I'm not surprised that foreigners have told me that the US is a FUndamentalist based country, and that the religious politician fanatics can screw over everyone else with their religious beliefs by imposing it via law.

What the heck happened to democracy and the free country? How ignorant does one have to be to ignore the Constitution? Those promoting anti-gay policies don't deserve to be politicians or government officials.

DISCRIMINATION AGAINST GAYS IS AT LEAST AS MORALLY REPREHENSIVE AS RACE DISCRIMINATION!!!!

And now the same dolts wish to get rid of the filibuster--- they might as well overthrow all of US Government, tear up and burn the Constitution, and declare the US a religious TYRANNY! SERIOUSLY! What is happening to this country???

even though I'm against it, I'll help the liberals out. There's a lil thing called the establishment clause in article 1 of the Constitution...there is NO PLACE for religion in politics...this contry was not founded upon the foundation of Christianity...if it would have been, it would be all too similar to the British monarchy...so God is not a valid reason in the context of American politics...you are free to practice any religion you wish in this nation, whether it be Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, atheism, satanic worship, Confusionism, etc. etc, so on and so forth....you can believe in one God or many gods or no diety at all...you can't impose your own religion on those who do not agree (and if you dare turn this in to a "Christianity is right and everyone else is wrong and we should govern by the concepts of the Christian faith" thread you're going to get bashed by a number of devout Christians, as well as members of other religions and me :))

Unfortunately, whether we like it or not, the Christian and Catholic churches still have a large influence over our society. I mean, a Christain fundamentalist group was able to keep CBS from broadcasting the movie Saving Private Ryan, saying that it promoted violence or something. But then, so does practically every other movie, and most TV shows, out there. Should we ban all of those movies and TV shows? Whatever happened to allowing the indiviual to choose what he/she will or will not watch, support, etc.? There's also groups protesting Harry Potter ("encouraging black magic") Spongebob Square Pants ("sexual messages") and Sherk2 (the cross-dressing bartender) as well as many other movies.

They may have influence, but they do not CONTROL government...nor will they....it's written in the "highest law of the land," that no religion will be either favored or opressed....

if you're not religious, then "my god says this is wrong!!" doesn't hold water.

in addition to granting equal rights, gay marriage could tone down negative stereotypes. many people think of gay guys as being promiscuous, but there's no way for them to legally recognize their long-term relationships.

I'm not exactly a fan of civil unions (we've done 'separate but equal' before...) but it's still a big step forward.

I'm trying to be rational and not get written off as a 'crazy liberal' or whatever, but this issue really gets to me.

natural law? you're saying it's wrong because they can't procreate?
all right, let's ban infertile couples, old people, and anyone who just doesn't want children from getting married as well.

TakingBackSaturday, please prove to me that God doesn't want homosexuals to marry. Prove it.

Government legislation can only be made on solid factual evidence, and in the pursuit of justice and equality for all. Creating laws just to please the unsubstantiable claims of any particular religious sect is unfair, unconstitutional, and wrong. Everyone has a right to believe, but not everything everyone believes is right. Government should not and is not the arbiter of what beliefs are right or wrong, only what is fair and just.

If you are a devout Christian and feel homosexuality is wrong, that is actually perfectly fine. Don't be a homosexual then, and don't perform homosexual acts. But what right does anyone have to dictate others' actions that do not affect their own? Everyone is equal. A Christian's beliefs are no more worthy than a gay's beliefs. Live and let live.
