Regarding UCB Political Economy major and foreign language requirement

I'm a first year transfer applicant to UCB as a Political Economy major, and after reviewing the articulation on assist, I'm beginning to worry about the foreign language requirement. The articulation reads as following:

All PE majors must be able to demonstrate proficiency in a modern language
other than English equivalent to four college-level semesters (or two years) by
their last semester of senior year.

If you do not have native language proficiency in a modern language other than
English and do not have a 5 in AP foreign language exam, take as many semesters
of foreign language as possible before transferring. NOTE: Four college
semesters = approximately five years of high school foreign language. High
school credit does not satisfy the foreign language proficiency requirement
unless the student was educated outside the US in a system where the language of
instruction was not English.

The problem is, I will not have taken any foreign language classes at community college by the end of spring 2010. How significant of an impact will this have on me, assuming that I've fulfilled all the other major requirements and have a good GPA? Would I be better off leaving the requested information about foreign language blank and sticking with my major, or just switching into the more impacted polisci?

Thanks for any help

it will look bad, cuz that major puts a lot of emphasis on FL, but I mean u still have a ■■■, its not required for transferring

Will it put me at such great of a disadvantage that I’m better off switching my major to polisci, which has about half the acceptance rate?

10charlimit
bump

depends on what ur GPA is polsci is normally around a 3.8 while political economy is arond a 3.6, so if you have up to 3.8 stick to PE and if you have anything above 3.8 go PS

Im in the same boat as you as I am also a PE major. I got the foreign language completed but I am missing the recommended Calculus classes. I guess the only thing we can both do is wait and see and hope that they evaluate us based on other factors such as GPA and completion of Prerequisites.

Ugh, I’m really afraid. I don’t have foreign language classes, a math 16B equivalent, and all my prereq’s are being taken in the spring.

I’m banking on my 4.0, essay, and AP scores.

Oh, and a bit of luck.
