Regents Scholarship - oos

What was your COA with the Regents Scholarship?

Tuition & fees (OOS) $21,936
Room & board $9,472

Total direct costs $31,408

http://admissions.unm.edu/costs_financial_aid/index.html

Regents Scholarship $18,377
Amigo Scholarship $16,936

Scholarship value $35,313

http://scholarship.unm.edu/scholarships/non-resident.html

It looks like you’d have about $4000 in excess scholarship funds to cover books, supplies, travel costs, lab fees, mandatory health insurance, etc.

The room price is for a traditional double in one of the older dorms. If you wanted to upgrade your dorm or meal plan, R&B costs will be higher.

Tuition & fees are for 15 credits/semester. If you enroll in more than 15 credits, you will have additional costs.

Regents Scholars are required to attend a special orientation session that they must pay for themselves.

@WayOutWestMom

You don’t have a kid there, do you? Because I’m pretty sure you are misinterpreting their website the same way that I did. The Amigo scholarship just brings your costs down to instate tuition which is around 6K and the 18K Regents is divided up over 4 years. So I think tuition comes about to about 1.5K everything else is full pay. I just wanted to confirm this with someone who actually goes there.

I don’t have a kid at UNM, though it’s high on our list.

Here’s a paste from the description of the OOS Regents:

"Approximately $18,337 plus the Amigo Scholarship per year

Renewable for 4 years"

Per year and renewable tend to make me think it’s $18+k per year, not $18k over 4 years, but the only way to know for sure is to call/email them and confirm.

I can see how “per year” might apply only to the Amigo (I think they need a comma after the amount, and then after Scholarship), but even so, there’s “renewable.” If you find out, please let us know.

We’re in-state and I did have one kiddo who graduated from UNM and one who applied (but went to college OOS). Younger child was offered the Regents and her award was $18K/year. However, that award includes the value of the Lottery Scholarship (100% tuition) that all NM resident students w/ a 2.5 HS GPA get as part of the award.

So I guess it’s possible that an annual $18K award for the OOS Regent’s might include the value of the Amigo tuition subsidy

Email the scholarship office and ask.
