The award notice for the top ~1200 admitted instate students have been sent. Each would receive a $1500 non renewable scholarship.
I (and a few other students at my school) received notice via mail yesterday.
Congrats! It is stackable with other scholarships. You should also be able to get the upto $1000 MCS which is renewable but I think it has a need component. Just make sure you have the FAFSA submitted by March and then check the state government site for the school in their record and the amount you are entitled to.
@billcsho My daughter received her letter for the regent merit scholarship yesterday, what is the MCS? How many students are admitted from MI?
MCS is Michigan Competitive Scholarship. Basically anyone admitted by UMich should have met the required academic criteria. You need to provide the SSN by phone or at the website to enter. It is easier to do it on the web. Once you have the account set up, you can set the primary in state college or they can get that from your FAFSA also. If you applied to more than one Michigan public college, just make sure it is the right one you planned to enroll on their site. Depending on the college and FAFSA data, it will show your eligibility to the MCS and the other fund with expected amount. The MCS has been increased from below $700 to up to $1000 last year.
The EA admission data is hard to find. Around 30-40% of total admission is from EA in recent years. Around 1/3 of total admission is from in state, but I think the ratio may be higher for EA. So I am expecting at least 2000 in state students have been accepted and that include most if not all the Regent Scholarship recipients.
@billcsho Thanks so much for your expertise. I had no idea the MCS even existed but have now created an account for both children and it seems they’re both eligible for $1000 next year. With both in college next year, it looks like we meet the need based criteria. I appreciate you letting us know about the opportunity!
Hey, I got the scholarship! I’ve heard about it, but didn’t really know what it was. Good rebound after a rejection from Georgia Tech.
Also, on the website, it says to declare your primary in-state college by the fall. Is it too late to get the MCS now?
@OtterOverlord As long as you file FAFSA by March and enter the info on the MISSG page, you are good to go. You can change the primary college later.
