My son has been accepted to Tulane and invited into the honors program. If he is unable to visit for the Top Scholars weekend, when would he register for classes. Do classes fill up quickly? How is the advising, and are students required to meet with an advisor prior to signing up for classes?
If he attends Destination Tulane instead, would he be able to register then?
Very excited, but not sure what dates are going to work yet.
Classes do not fill up that quickly in most cases, and they hold spots in freshman classes so that for students that come to June Orientation there are spots available. Still, in the past if you work with the Honors Office they can get your son the pass codes he needs to register with the other HP people, maybe not until the second TSW though. Registering online is easy, as are finding what classes will be available, once they put the Fall 2016 schedule up. I can help walk you through that. He can also talk to an advisor on the phone, that shouldn’t be a problem. Is there a chance he would go to one of the June Orientation sessions? If so, then a good way to do it is to get registered like we just talked about, then go over it again with an advisor in June and just make sure it is what it should be.
Bottom line, the biggest advantage to the HP people getting to sign up so early is that these kids are the ones most likely skipping freshman level courses in some areas and signing up for sophomore or even junior level classes, and in a few cases, depending on the type of class, they could fill up between March and June as current students register. Biggest advantage besides the wonderful coolness of how it feels to already be registered for all your college classes in March of your senior year of high school, that is. So I would say as March gets closer, talk to the HP office and see what can be arranged.
