Registration & When to order textbooks (Summer B)

Hi everyone. Summer B starts June 27th and I was wondering if the textbooks for my classes are mandatory to have on the first day. Same question for laptops. I have one, but is it really mandatory to bring on the first day to class?

In regards to registration, I want to change one of my classes and to my understanding, I can do that on the 24th. Are there typically spaces open in some of the classes or are all of them full already? This is why I asked about textbooks, because if I change my class on the 24th, then I'm going to have to get a different textbook.

Thank you!

I’ve never had a class that I’ve needed the textbook the first day, in fact all of my professors have expected that many students don’t have their text yet because they almost always address if you’re going to need the textbook or not on the first day of class. For this reason I almost never buy my books ahead of time, I’ve had profs tell me we don’t need them even when they’re listed as mandatory.

As far as a laptop… same deal. In fact I never use mine for my classes because the battery sucks. It’s more of just a convenience thing for taking notes or looking up slides or whatever while you’re in class.

And does it not let you register now? I don’t know if it’s different for you because you’re a new student… but regardless if you can or not you can still look on ISIS and see what seats are left for the class you want.

Ah okay, that’s good to know about the textbooks and the laptop.

And it doesn’t let me register, when I click Summer under “Register Now”, I get this:

My assigned time is on the 24th. I think you’re right and it does have to do with me being a new student. As for seeing what seats are left, I’m guessing I can’t do that either?

Not until the 24th

Got it. Thank you, both of you!

Sorry for stealing your thread, but does anyone know when to get textbooks online? Assuming that I want to rent books instead of buying them and that it would take at least 3 days for them to be arrived, is it too late to wait until after the first day of class to order books? Thanks!
