Regret not declaring a major

Recently I was accepted to UMD for Fall 2015! But when I applied, I really had no idea what I wanted to major in so I applied undecided - but now, I found a major that I’m interested in (it’s not a LEP)

  1. Should I try to declare a major now (is this possible?) If so, who should I email (head of department or admissions?)
  2. Would it be a bad idea to stay in Letters and Sciences, even with a potential major in mind? Or should I just stay in Letters and Sciences for a bit and then transfer out?

I concede that I probably don’t understand Letters and Sciences (along with a lot of other college related things) as well as I think I do, so I apologize if my questions are kinda frustrating, haha :stuck_out_tongue: if anyone could give any input, I’d really appreciate it! Thanks!

@miopyon13‌ Up to you, you can e-mail the admissions office to be considered for an LEP if you didn’t apply for that one. Or you can stay in Letters & Sciences and apply for the major you want after you are at school. It is only going to benefit you if its Business because of the competitive review aspect.

Otherwise you will have to complete the same courses for the other LEPs whether you are in them or not to continue in that major.

@miopyon13‌ - My D applied Undecided last year. She did have a certain Major in mind, and was taking the appropriate Gateway courses, but decided on another Major near the end of last semester. With her AP credit, she had what she needed. applied and got in over the Winter break. No regrets about staying in L&S for a semester.

@mdhelp‌ @SoofDad‌ Thank you for your responses! I’m glad to hear that there wouldn’t really be any disadvantages to staying in L&S for a semester. I guess in that case, I think I’ll stay in Letters and Sciences for the time being and transfer out later. Thank you both for your help!
