Is there any chance at all that one can try to reclaim their spot at a university after declining their offer of enrollment? (technically did not officially “decline”, just failed to respond by the deadline of May 1 and thus enrollment was passively declined) Has anyone had success with this or know what the protocol is (appeal letter…?) or is this a total lost cause? Thank you!
They probably gave your spot to a waitlist at this point. You can contact admissions, but unless you are a star student, you shouldn’t expect much.
The worst thing that can happen is they say no. It’s worth a try especially if you would always wonder what if.
If the school is very selective they will likely say no, especially since you did not bother to officially decline the offer. Even if they let you in whatever financial aid you were offered will likely not be available any more.
We are still getting emails that say we are welcome to come to a school that my student did not respond to. It is worth a try, some schools still have spots and they understand this happens. You won’t know unless you try. But be sure you are going to go if you ask.
Unlikely but the only way to know for sure is to contact the school.
But before you do so, take the weekend and reflect on why you made your choice in the first place.
Thank you all!
You should look up buyer’s remorse.
By not responding on or before May 1, you basically have declined the admission offer. Some schools may send you an e-mail to verify though in case something get lost in mail.
