Is it possible to change one's ED choice -> RD before the decisions come out?
Would it put one on the blacklist of that university AND other universities?

Unfortunately, I doubt you will be able to change to RD. If anything, I would call the college ASAP.

Would it hurt my chances RD?

If you still want to apply there RD, why do you want to cancel your ED?

I’d like to compare financial aid packages with the other RD schools.

I’m also curious on whether or not it will put me in a bad light for other schools as well.

110 views and only two people replied? D’aww.

The reason why you’re not getting responses is because no one here can give you an accurate answer to your question. You need to call the admission’s office and speak directly with someone associated with this specific college. You need to call ASAP.

That’s the thing, though. I’m afraid to call because it would be really bad if it jeopardized my chances. :c

I think I’ll have to think about it for a night.

It’s not going to jeopardize anything. Explain to them why you would like to change your ED status to RD. The longer you wait, the more complicated it’s going to become.

^Definitely. Though, P.S., an insufficient financial aid package is one, and perhaps the only, way to get out of an ED accept from what I have heard.

You can absolutely change and should if you have doubts.

If your ED school is Stern and you need aid, I’d withdraw from ED right away.

Ah, then I’ll make my decision tomorrow! (cause it’s late, haha)

I heard about that, but would that blacklist me?

^If you’re worried about it, you can call them and ask whether they are ok with applicants switching from ED to RD without revealing your identity. If they seem to be comfortable with that, you can then call back and make the switch.

I think NYU is very much in favor of students needing aid NOT applying ED. They don’t meet need and gap (big) the vast majority. A couple of years ago they wrote to accepted students whose need they had not met to discourage big private loans. A call that says you’re not sure about finances and need to switch to RD will not hurt you.

And Frankly, if you have the stats for Stern, you can get into lots of equally good schools that meet need.
