Yay! I got the letter too!! :D After false alarms sent from colleges before that sent me letters to verify their receipt of certain documents, I didn't think much of the thin envelope they sent me. Then, I found out it was a scholarship to Mac and then the next envelope I opened was the admissions!

It seems to me that the early notifications are for top candidates. QUOTE: You may be surprised to hear good news from us earlier than our published notification date (March 30). Although our review of applciations will be conitnuing until the end of March, we are giving you this "early" notification because the Admissions Committee has already reviewed your application and was certain you would still be in our "Admit!" group at the end of the process.

I am still waiting to hear back from my other colleges, esp. UChicago and UPenn.

Good luck to everyone else in the applicant pool! Continue to show interest and such by sending in supplementary materials. I think my greatest edges in the app pool were the intanglibles--my four-page resume, my essay, and supp. materials. My 35 ACT may also have helped me.

No, I didn't notice any status notifier on my tracking page.

Congratulations, bohbeep, good for you!! Your comments bring up a question I've been struggling with...when you say "send in supplementary materials" what kinds of things do you mean? Do the colleges really want you to send things that they haven't asked for or are you talking about sending additional information within the parameters of the application? You sent a four page resume apart from the app?

Hey, kbl! For my supplementary materials, I sent in an article written me in a Girls State newsletter. What I did was I simply sent in a cover letter, to start with, requesting that this supplentary material be part of my application, along with a description of what the article was about. The thing is that there really are no "parameters" of the application. You are penalized in NO WAY for sending in things they did not request. Supp. materials could be used as a way for you to express greater interest in schools by, say, sending in a letter to your first choice school by telling them that it is your first choice college and reasons why; they can also be news articles, CDs of your music (if you play an instrument, of course-not just random CDs), art materials, etc. that give a better depiction of who you are outside of what the app would request. I ended up also sending in a supplementary rec from my Debate Coach--so it showed up on my tracker that I had 3 recs sent in, along with supplementary materials. Schools such as UChicago very much encourage you to send in things they didn't request. The NYU Dean of Admissions was, in one of the books I've read, talking about how they received one application that had 14 pages of supp. materials that included pictures of the applicant's family, projects done in the past, etc.--and the dean commended the applicant because it was very "much, but effective", as he called it. They just don't want you to send in things for the sake of it--then, it gets annoying/seems like you are trying to compensate for some weakness in your application.

I would say that each school is different. What I would do is simply send in materials to all of your schools--if they don't accept it, then you still aren't penalized in any way.

My four-page resume was a detailed academic resume that both outlined my activities/awards and gave descriptions of each one of them. I also included about a paragraph or two of why I chose my intended major at the end of my resume. I sent it with my online common app when, at the very end of the app, you could upload a file if you want to send in any additional info.

If you would really like to send in supplementary materials at this point, I suggest doing it FAST, being that Mac is already sending in early notifications. Using priority mailing/express mail would be good.

If you don't mind me asking, what type of scholarships did you receive? My s wants to go to Mac really bad and was also accepted this week but we could really use some help on the finanacial end.

hmm, no, I don't think they did have a separate section for it. Some schools do, some don't. Either way, I don't think it means it is prohibited if they DON'T have a section for supp. materials.

To hokiefan:
There are several scholarships that Mac offers, and there isn't any seperate application for them-you apply to them when you apply to Mac. They include:

Mac. College National Merit Scholarship (5,000/yr)

DeWitt Wallace Distinguished Scholarships--to selected Natnl Merit Semifinalists/Commended Students (3,000/yr)

DeWitt Wallace Scholarships--to those who need financial assistence to attend Mac (3,000/yr)

Catharine Lealtad Scholarships--to minorities w/ strong high school records (3,000/yr) <-this is the one I got.

Mac. offers full need to all students--this meaning that your package includes 85% grant, 9% loans and 6% work--which helps out families a LOT. Besides this, I think your best bet will probably have to come from outside scholarships. Just be sure to have your IDOC in ASAP.

Hope that helped everyone. I've just recently applied for their Multicultural Seminar-Visit-thing that they're having in April from the 10th to the 13th. Anyone else who got accepted attending??

My daughter also received her early notification letter Friday, along with a DeWitt Wallace Distinguished Scholarships+NMF=5K. We'll see what happens over the next month before making a commitment to visit in April. Congrats to everyone.

Congrats to everyone who got in!!!
I am an international, I haven't gotten my decision yet :( btw, how it will be shown online? And are decision letters sent by snail mail? If yes, it will take 3 weeks till it gets here :(((

sureee here you go!
2/225
hardest courseload possible plus a physics college course
SAT: m-700 r-690 w-660
satII (hahah) m1-590 (i knowwwwwww, awful) french-610
good ecs (whatever that means)
really good essays...i think i was really able to show the adcoms that i wanted mac, and how i think about life in general. (apparently, it worked!)

i was not expecting to get in, especially early...and judging from my horrendous satii i think that mac really does look beyond numbers, and crap that doesnt really show who you are. so if your sn is any indication of you sat scores, i wouldn't worry about that being the factor that doesn't get you in.
