Kid was accepted! We haven’t visited yet and are planning to take a trip this month. The only problem is that Sundays are the only possible days for us due to kid’s sports, and Rochester doesn’t do any tours on Sundays. Does anyone have any ideas? Would calling admissions and asking for a Sunday tour be rude, or do you think this happens regularly?
If possible, can u tell us how the campus day go? Thanks!
Here for the 2026 Experience tomorrow (4/9) - DD’s second time to campus but my first. Looking forward to it!
Have fun! Curious to know what you think! We visit the campus on Thursday.
Whew, anyone else on campus today for the 2026 Experience event? I would think maybe since there were over 400 students who attended (plus their family or people that joined them). That was a LOT of people - or maybe I’m just covid-maladjusted!
I’m glad we went because it was nice to hear from the administrators and feel the energy around helping students make their choice if still deciding where to go. I thought the Admissions welcomes were great and especially appreciated that he said that a Rochester graduate boils down to two words “cool nerds” - and the Venn diagram of where your cool overlaps with your nerd is your superpower. That’s fairly on target for my daughter!
We did the tour which was insanity bc so many people - I would guess because most of us could not ever tour before applying because of covid. It felt a little off because maybe it was more tailored to accepted students - when there was some information we still didn’t know generally? But we have a son of a fam friend who attends and took us around for additional time and information.
Loved lots of things about it! My D did say though it felt very intense in terms of a lot of focus on premed and bios from the science side (daughter wants to do Comp Sci/Chem) - and she also wished they had talked more about the cultural and non-academic/research aspects of choosing Rochester. I did notice that except for their tables at the student life expo, they never mentioned Theatre or arts - or speakers/performers/thought leaders coming to campus etc. I know it happens (apparently Pete Davidson just came, we learned from the 2024 friend) but it would be smart of them to emphasize the full life and opportunities if choosing to spend college years there? It may just have been bc it was a very stem/premed heavy crowd so research was the focus to try to become a choice over other acceptances.
Love Meliora philosophy, and she very much felt at home on campus. Sun broke through and it was a lovely day to be on campus.
We are currently in Poughkeepsie for a Vassar admit day on 4/10 and head to WashU for an admit experience on Fri, so I’m just a passenger happy to see my child get to experience some positives in this whole college stress.
Anyone else have impressions on today?
And, of course…!
PS I picked some of the more scenic, but for those there, you may marvel at my ability to not get the 1000 people roaming the tour in the pics. My superpower! Lol
Thanks for sharing the notes and pictures! We couldn’t visit during one of these two admit days, but we finally did a tour about two weeks ago. There were tons of people there that day, and they let you pick which student tour guide you wanted to walk around with. Interestingly, for my bio/stem girl, most of the tour guides were humanities people (which we were actually delighted to see). We ended up walking with a senior who is in science, but is also a dancer, so she provided a lot of insight into the arts at UR, which was helpful and great. We loved it. Good luck on your next two tours!
Wish I’d been there to see that - sounds perfect!
Oops - in the dark at Vassar and hit the wrong emoji! lol
No biggie. Not sure if you can click on it again to remove it? We used to be able to do that on this forum - not sure if we still can. Either way, no biggie and thanks for sharing!
I took a pic of what you wrote and sent it to my grad. He’ll love it. Back in his day he was attracted to a hand made sign in the dorm that said, “We’re not nerds, we’re intellectual badasses!” Cool nerds would have attracted him too…
We were there judging from picture might be sitting couple of steps down from you. Daughter was so happy to be there, I could feel she will fit in very nicely. I see 400 families as life is becoming normal. I went tour with two different students one with about 5 families others with 3 families so it was a nice small tour. I am so glad she got admitted to U of R. She doesn’t want to see anymore schools.
Thank you for your guidance, we were so impressed with U of R. This is exactly what she need. Now it’s her time to shine there.
May she have as much fun on the journey as my guy did!
