I just got my acceptance from Bowdoin today. :)

I got in! I didn’t think they would be sending our decisions this early! Kind of shocked I didn’t think I was good enough.

regular mail? that is going to take awhile…

For the people that got their early writes, how far do you live from Bowdoin (aka what state)?

I haven’t gotten one (yet), but still hoping. I looked back at the '09 threads and saw that people started getting EW’s on the 16th through the 18th. Judging by that, they could still come tomorrow or even Wednesday.

I live in MA. Early writes? I don’t think it was an early write. It said I was accepted. There was no “you will most likely receive admission” in the package.

Was this a likely letter guys?

Ok fine, not a likely letter, but basically the same principal. You’re a superior applicant therefore an acceptance was sent earlier than normal so they can reel you in.

But you should be pleased with yourself for getting one, its an honor.

Could you tell us what it said?

Yea, sorry. By early write I just meant receiving an acceptance letter early.

Sleepymouth, I’m right with you. I hope I will get one, and it’s just a matter of snail mail being snail mail.

Although the fact that light10491 lives in MA is discouraging (that’s where I live)

@light

u got an early write or a regular decision?

I thought it was just a regular RD decision and that Bowdoin just went through all their applications really quickly this year.

But supposedly it’s an early write. I don’t know why I got an early write because I don’t think I’m that great an applicant. Is it because Bowdoin is a LAC and I happen to be an Asian-American male?

If I get into Bowdoin, what are my chances of Middlebury, Amherst or Dartmouth? Just wondering.

well done!!

light10491,

Being an Asian-American probably helped. At schools like the Ivies and MIT, being Asian would not help very much, but at these small LACs, I’m sure they are always looking for more diversity.

I took a look at some of your “chance me” threads. I’d say you have a good chance at Middlebury (basically on par with Bowdoin in terms of selectivity). I’d consider Amherst and Dartmouth more reaches, however. Your stats are good, but basically average for Ivy Leagues (and Amherst is more selective than Bowdoin or Midd).

if you guys get in, join our facebook group. Bowdoin class of 2014 <3

i must post. i got one today. i live in north carolina.
EEEEEEEE!!

not sure if being Asian-American helps to get into Bowdoin. They report near 12% Asian… If you go there, you will see they have a decent ethnic mix… still striving it seems, but are reported at under 70% white… small town, remote region is more important I think…

Accepted!!! Also to everyone who got an early write (because the letters we got specify that this is an early write or “early notification.”), we should be proud of ourselves! Don’t say “ohh…I’m not that amazing…why did they accept me early?” You are amazing…we’re amazing that’s why we got admitted early. Remember they’re not admitting numbers or stats, they’re admitting people and I’m glad that Bowdoin saw that in us!

Jamiecago, have they replied to your email?

bowdoin’s got a good ethnic mix cuz they try so hard. they’ve been traditionally white, prep school, taft/lawrenceville/exeter kids. midd tries less but still gets more diversity

Mercedes - Bowdoin is more diverse than Middlebury in terms of its American student population. Bowdoin has more African American and Latino students in both absolute and percentage terms and more Native Americans and Asians in percentage terms. The only area where Middlebury has the lead is in “international” students. As per the common data set, the numbers are not even close . .
