Did not get the letter in today's mail. We are in SF Bay Area, so will probably be tomorrow. Did anyone get it today?

This is funny. Since most colleges are on the East Coast, I usually don't have to worry about being the last one to get results. For once, I have to.

I live in San Diego County and did not get it in the mail. I really did not expect it too either. I'l let you know if I get it tomorrow, which would be early. Or maybe I will be too busy crying my eyes out :( !!!! I wonder at what time the emailing is going to be on Saturday. Maybe we will find out today on the director's notebook. I hope the email or letter will be good news! Good luck to all of you too!

Another east sider here expressing his regret that an email, not a packet, is going to hold his fate.

The stats are in:

Caltech: More on Regular Decision

~29.3% of people got waitlisted or accepted :o

"Another east sider here expressing his regret that an email, not a packet, is going to hold his fate. "

I was hardly expressing regret. I wish they'd send out the emails sooner, though. Alternatively, just don't check your email =D

"Including early action, we have offered admission to 669 students"

Jeesh. If I remember right, roughly 250 early applicants were accepted, 250 deferred, and 500 rejected.

So, only 400ish more have been accepted.

For anyone else that's interested:

4400 applications were received, and 750 have already received decisions (rejected/accepted early). That leaves 3650 applications to receive 400 acceptances. That gives everyone better than a 1 in 10 chance of getting accepted in this wave. Also, there's better than a 1 in 4 chance you'll atleast get waitlisted.

I was expecting that I'd be incredibly discouraged after calculating that out, but I was actually pretty happy. Then I thought about it a little more, and I must have done my math wrong. Anyone wanna check?

e39m5

1 in 4 chance of being waitlisted is really good!
For such a small school, and so selective as well, only 75% reject rate? =]

I'm beginning to think I have a chance...
but then I realize I really don't, compared to everyone else lol

but then, being waitlisted is nearly the same as rejection, since the chances of getting in after being waitlisted is so small, right?

if I get waitlisted by caltech, I might stay on it, but I guess I will matriculate at other school, probably MIT (accepted early), because I don't want to go through the pain/anxious-ity of being waitlisted and I want a relaxing summer.

The chances of getting off the waitlist can be good if you are motivated to work at getting in. If you take the attitude of "waitlisted is almost like rejection" than the chances are substantially lower ;)

Caltech has an unranked waitlist, meaning that you have a chance after you've been waitlisted to distinguish yourselves among the others on the waitlist. Establish a personal relationship... the admissions office is small enough that they can get to know you easily. They certainly knew me after I was waitlisted...lol
