Reilly Visitation Program

Hey guys!

I just recently got in the mail a letter for the Reilly Visitation Program to stay for four days at Notre Dame in February!

Did all early action applicants get this?

You’re in the top 1% of the applicant pool. Congratulations!

What were your stats? I’m interested in knowing what the top 1% is!

U.W. 3.82/4.00, Top 25% (that’s all we’re told)
SAT: Math 800, CR: 760, Writing 720
5 AP’s taken so far, taking 3 at school and self-studying four more for N.D. credit ;] Distinguished Scholar

Honors
Center For Future Global Leaders- CFGL Essay Competition Division Finalist
California Boy’s State Chief Financial Officer- Best Performance Financially
Japanese National Honor Society

Eagle Scout
Stock Trader (140% gain) 10,000 -> $24,000
I used the money from my theater lighting job to help me invest and I researched stocks for three years before using any money at all

Water Polo 4 years, Varsity Captain
AV Tech/Theater Lighting (It’s a paid job and ASB position)
Red Cross Director of Special Events (Manage events like Relay for Life)
Long Beach Memorial Anesthesiology Department Volunteer (assisted blood testing dept)
BOEING Aerospace Camp
Assisted scientists in teaching students scientific principles in chem, bio and physics.
School District Rep in Financial and Audit Committee
Dragon boating Team (Ranked 2nd in California, our high school team competes against corporate and college teams)

Pros: I think I have really great extracurriculars, which show my willingness to go into a Finance Major (Mendoza)

I think my essays were decent but nothing great (wrote about theater lighting)
Cons: I have a low G.P.A, but I felt that it was compensated for because I go to a high school in California that’s consistently ranked in the top ten of America by various news sources.

In all honesty, I’m amazed I even got into Notre Dame, let alone qualify for the top 1%. I thought holistic review at my school would be a major negative in my app.

My son received the letter inviting him to the Reilly weekend also. It looks like the weekend may be in conflict with a full ride scholarship weekend at another university on the same weekend (he won’t know if in the running for that until mid/late January). My thoughts are he should go ahead and accept the Reilly invite (he must RSVP by January 13) and then if he is invited to the scholarship weekend, he must make a decision as to which to attend. Since no $$ attached to the Reilly weekend, the scholarship opportunity would likely prevail. Any other suggestions on what to do? Would it be frowned upon by Notre Dame to cancel on the Reilly weekend after accepting ?

Congratulations! Would you mind telling me what state you’re from and when you got your letters? My mail is so behind. Still haven’t gotten a letter about my EA decision. Was wondering if there is any hope of still being invited for this. Thank you both!

I’m from California, and I got my Reilly letter on Monday, the 23rd. I received my acceptance letter the Saturday before that.

We are in Illinois, (not Chicago area) and admission letter came Saturday the 21st, Reilly letter on Christmas eve (Tuesday).

Thank you both for the information and congratulations again!

I was invited to attend! So excited!

You guys should definitely do Reilly. Reilly is the reason I chose ND. I wish I could go on and on about all the reasons it is awesome, but I’m on my phone right now. I’ll give you guys my all my thoughts once I have access to my computer again.

Hey guys, congrats to everyone on getting in, I’m hoping to attend RVP next year… DO you have any advice what I can do this summer or next year to better my chances of getting in and going to the program?

This probably isn’t what you want to hear, but there’s not really anything you can do so that you’ll get invited to Reilly. They pick about 100 people from EA and 100 people from RD, so if you calculate it out, about 1% of applicants get invited to Reilly. Obviously they’ll tell you that their criteria are “students who are outstanding in all areas,” but I don’t think anybody can really tell you what specific things will get you an invitation that only 1% of applicants get. There’s no magical formula for getting that letter.

My advice is to do what you love and do your best. Reilly is great and you should definitely go if you get invited, but it is by no means a necessity to properly experience ND. There are plenty of other great visitation programs that do a great job of showcasing all that ND has to offer.

Thank you so much!!

Are the RD people invited to the same date in February or is there a different date later in the year?

There is a date in April that RD students get invited to.
