For a while there were actual domain names illustrating some of these comparisons. Students would buy them. “mitrejects.com” redirected to the Caltech website, “stanfordrejects.com” to Berkeley’s website, and “northwesternrejects.com” to Michigan’s website. I don’t think they exist anymore though.

^Haha that’s outrageous. In what world is yale a safety school? :P

Reddog, I remember those domain names. “northwesternrejects.com” was functioning and redirecting to Umichigan’s site up until like a few months ago I think. Also, “Uchicagorejects.com” use to redirect to Northwestern’s website.

The joke of the matter is that most Michigan students never have any interest in even attending Northwestern. Check out CBS television Monday night around 9PM to see just one of the many reasons why. :-)

For instance, I don’t doubt that many students at Tufts were rejected from Harvard. Nor would I be surprised if a lot of UNC kids were rejected at Duke. That being said, however, I think those comparisons are all very exaggerated. I’m sure a good amount of kids at Tufts didn’t even apply to Harvard.

Although,
It’s simple statistics that if several hundred student apply to both Harvard and Tufts, a good portion of those kids will be Tufts admits and Harvard rejects. The same is a reality for all those comparisons. However, that doesn’t mean the less selective school is definitively for rejects of the more selective school.

Harvard rejects go to Columbia, Columbia rejects go to Cornell, Cornell rejects go to Tufts, Tufts rejects go to University of Rochester, Rochester rejects go to Boston University, Boston university rejects go to Rutgers.

Some of the biggest ones I’ve heard:

UVA is for Vandy rejects
Michigan is for Northwestern rejects
Tufts is for Harvard rejects
UT Austin is for Rice rejects.
Boston college is for georgetown rejects.

UCLA is for Berkeley rejects.
UCSD is for UCLA/Berkeley rejects.
Vanderbilt is for Duke rejects.
Case Western is for CMU rejects.
Barnard is for Columbia rejects.
NYU is for Columbia rejects.
Cal Poly SLO is for UCSB/UCD/UCI rejects.
USC is for Stanford rejects.
UCSB/UCD/UCI is for UCSD rejects.
