I’ve never even seen snow in my life.

I got deferred… but MIT is first choice by far :D

You’ve never seen snow?! How sad. Let’s hope you get into MIT then. Snow is awesome!

Yeah, I mean it’s definitely possible to get into both, but maybe if you are someone who would only be a good fit for MIT, it would be a good sign to get rejected from caltech. Both schools attract similar students, but the two schools are so different.

yes yes… I am getting over Caltech as of we speak :)

Caltech does not practice gender-based affirmative action.

@mollie,

So they say.

But I’m over it. It is what it is.

No, they don’t practice affirmative action.

I understand the idea of venting, and of sour grapes. But I will not accept the promulgation of falsehoods simply for the sake of making people feel better.

I totally buy that Caltech doesn’t practice affirmative action. I mean, only something like a third of the student body is female…

Looks like someone’s a sour grape.

While the admit rate to Cal Tech is higher among females, it is the result of a more self-selective pool of applicants. Cal Tech does consider the background and educational opportunities of applicants (to an extent), but does not consider race or gender.

I was thinking acceptance to CalTech was a good sign for MIT, but you guys think different :[

CalTech waitlisted me (RD), Duke rejected me, MIT and Columbia accepted me.

There isn’t really much of a correlation.

Also, Djokovic, access is not equal to intelligence.

When I applied to MIT (from a very strong, nationally-ranked magnet school that has had several Intel winners over the years) I didn’t know what the competition was all about either, and I strongly resent the implication that this lack of knowledge somehow makes me inferior to you or anyone else.

MIT shares it’s applicant pool more with Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Stanford than with CalTech.

Huh, I always thought that getting accepted to Caltech and MIT went together. The few people who applied to both in my school got into both or neither one.

I think Caltech is pretty, prettier than MIT and Harvard and BU, at least. Also, “hot” and “sunny” are wonderful adjectives at this time in Boston.

You didn’t get my point LauraN and I don’t feel like debating

I didn’t even apply to Caltech. The only reasons was that I didn’t feel like taking the SAT Math 2, it’s trivial when I have an AIME score and fairly strong state math competition rankings.
MIT’s my first choice, and I was deferred by Chicago, my 5th choice.

Djokovic - can you tell me what your decision ends up being? No doubt I’ll be on the MIT thread, but just in case I don’t see your post.

Just since I’m a similar deferee from Caltech

Of course! :)

i really want djokovic to get in to MIT!!! I got accepted early to Caltech and that was my for sure #1 but it’s just been great how you basically keep the Caltech board going and add a ton to the MIT board too. Good luck dude!
