My 9X12, which had 2 teacher recs, my high school profile, transcrpts, counselor form, Emory scholars application was sent on Oct 29, 3 days before the Nov 1 deadline. It was just returned to my school because 80 cents wasn't enough postage! So I called Emory and talked to an admissions staff, and she said it would fine to remail it, so I remailed it with the original envelope inside a new bigger envelope with a letter explaining what happened signed by my counselor. Hopefully, everything will be alright! Do you think so? Will admissions officers (those actually evaluating my app) ever know what happened, cuz I don't want that to hurt my chances.
btw it should have cost $1.40. but when i remailed it I did express with the signature waiver so they don't have to sign it (it will arrive overnight) -- that is fine, right?
Alright, we should all just pay like .1% more in taxes every year to support the postal system and never have to worry about stamps again!
btw, I took a SAT subject test in early Oct, and the internet results came out over a week ago, but not the mail results yet. It should be in time for Emory, right?
Everything should be fine, just a little shaken. This is why I do everything online when possible
p.s. I'm sending all my Dec 1 deadlines by the end of this week --- that would be like 4 weeks early -- not taking any chances -- thats enough extra time for the postal service to reject me twice!

My S sent every application, enclosures, etc. to his schools... via overnight express mail....I figured that with costs at $ 45000 + /year,,,what's an extra few hundred dollars..??

wow. that's completely unnecessary. I just figured I would do it becasue of this predicament.

wait, it cost you $1.40? I am putting $0.97 on all my 9x12 envelopes..

You will be fine. Emory will understand. This stuff happens all the time.

jackberm, my envelope had somewhere between 10-15 pages in it. just FYI. $0.97 may or may nt be enough for you. let me stress it again. From now on, I'm taking every one of them to the ppost office and having them weigh it and charge me for it.
donleyc, thanks for the reassurance. it will help me sleep better tonight :))

Again, believe me, colleges are used to screw ups from postal to college counselors, on and on. Our son was accepted ED II to Emory. We rescinded on all the other apps. the same day. In April of 2006, he received acceptance from Johns Hopkins. We had rescinded two months earlier. Someone messed up at JHU. We quickly rescinded AGAIN! So it happens from the college end too.

donleyc, wow, just wondering... did he regret his ED decision for Emory upon seeing his acceptance letter to JHU?

No, not at all. At that point, he was an Eagle! And he had fallen for Emory. Although if he had been rejected, he would have moved on and would have been happy at another school, including JHU. Same thing happened to my daughter. She applied ED II to a college, accepted, then heard from a soccer coach at another college about her acceptance after she had rescinded. She hoped that would not happen again - harder for her to handle since the decision had been made and no going back. Our son just felt bad for the student who was not accepted at JHU - hope we fixed that by acting quickly.

We didnt need two t-recs did we? I thought it was only 1??

donleyc,

The matter of "no going back" is something one has to handle when applying Early Decision, given the implications if accepted to matriculate to that school. Still, there's frequently a lingering doubt about "what if..."

My daughter also had withdrawn her other applications after she admitted ED I a couple of years back, but apparently the message didn't get through to UC Berkeley, so sent her a "big envelope" on April 1. Very quickly, we realized that through no fault on her part, she may have denied the acceptance of another student. Que sera, sera ...

Jeef690,

It doesn't matter how many teacher recs you send... although the Office of Admission does not suggest more than 3.

jeef690 you only need 1 teachers rec for the scholars program
I sent 1 extra rec and 1 extra essay for kicks
