Hi, my unweighted GPA is a 3.5 & my weighted is a 3.8. My SAT was a 1600 (I know it's bad) but I wrote an amazing essay, and had a ton of extracurriculars (choir, drama/theatre, volunteering for sick animals, community service, Red Cross, book club, etc!) however, I've been rejected by Davis & San Diego...so far, I've gotten into San Francisco State, San Jose State, UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC Santa Cruz & University of San Francisco. I'm still waiting on UCLA, Berkley, Irvine & Santa Barbara. What do my chances look for the other schools? :( I'm honestly shocked about the Davis rejection :(

I think you can write off UCLA and UCB. Not sure about the rest.
Did you like UCSC? My D almost went there, loved the campus.

Not that shocking, your SAT is far to low.

You might have a chance at Irvine, I know a few people rejected by Davis that got into there. Not sure about Santa Barbara.

Sent from my SPH-L710 using CC

Santa Cruz has very nice college and good academics so you might wanna go there. I don’t think you will get accepted at UCLA, Berkley, Irvine & Santa Barbara because all of them require higher SAT score than 1600.

Average SAT scores:

Berkeley: around 2000
Los Angeles: Around 1950
Santa Barbara: Around 1800
Irvine: Around 1750

So, you have a slight chance at Irvine but close to 0 percent chance at Berkeley and Los Angeles.

Me and a bunch of my friends got rejected from Santa Cruz, Davis, and San Diego. Stings. No sure what exactly is going into the admississions process this year. Praying for either UCSB or Irvine, not a chance at gettin into UCLA haha.

GPA: UW 3.4
W 3.67

SAT: 2010

ACT: 30

IB diploma student, ALL IB courses my junior/senior year. AP and honors my sopomore year.

3 years of rugby, 2 years of wrestling. tons of extra curriculars, very well written essay.

Youve got some pretty decent schools on your acceptance list there…Although with a 1600 SAT chances do seem slim, don’t lose hope…what really matters is where you go for grad school.

The UCs are somewhat more numbers based than private schools. Your GPA and scores were both well below average for those schools. That said, UCSC is a fine institution.

Be thankful for the acceptances you do have and don’t worry about the others

Why not consider UCR and Merced? People write them off without even giving a chance.

What is your major?

I assume you’ve already read the results threads on the UCD and UCSD forums? If so, you’ll see your stats were lower than many others who were also rejected. I was especially surprised at some of the Davis ones - students with 2200 or even 2300+ SAT’s, 6-8+ AP classes with good scores, EC’s etc. It seems like they may have placed the most importance on GPA. Those with <3.8 unweighted/4.1 weighted were often rejected, especially the CA residents.

It will be very interesting to see how all the rest of the UC decisions play out.

My major is biology…I’m pretty sure it can’t be because of my SAT because one of my best friends has the same GPA I do & she had 2 SAT scores; a 1300 & a 1400. And guess what? She GOT IN TO DAVIS. With a 1400! And a 3.8 GPA and far less extracurriculars than I have. So obviously my SAT score can’t be the main problem =/

Someone at my school who graduated last year got into Berkely with a 1500 SAT…

I’m in the same boat here, rejection hurts a bunch.

Don’t worry, I got rejected by UCD but got into Irvine and UCSD. I have SAT score of 1800.

Was he a thousand yard rusher or someone who could hit the jumper from three-point range?

Well, I got into UC Irvine! Now I’m just waiting on Berkley, LA, & SB. Hopefully I’ll get into more! Good luck to everyone out there! #ClassOf2013

Congrats to you! I’m still waiting to hear back from Irvine and Berkeley. I also go denied by UCD and UCSD. Terrible feeling but things happen.

OMG. I got into UCSB! 2 more to go…LA & Berkley! Good luck everyone!

son’s admitted to UCSD: ACT 32 = to about 2200 SAT, his math/read SAT is 1430, total 2100. ACT is higher. His math acumen got him in: 34 ACT, Math Lev II SAT II Subject is 750, all 4’s and 5’s on six AP’s.

Her community service is weaker than the gal who didn’t get in, but ultimately service cannot compromise rigor and scores. It refers back to dilemma: AP courses with B’s or just Honors, but with A’s? Answer: AP with A’s for most selective colleges. More people going to college than 30 years ago and not too many new Most Selectives. competitive.

I’m combing thru College Confidential to find out if UCSD and CAL kids are not able to get their needed classes to graduate in four years. We know Cal State schools and community colleges are impossible with years’ wait for needed courses.

Son applied to UCSD, CAL, and UCLA. Tapped months ago by CAL and UCSD, never heard a peep from UCLA. March 13 admitted to UCSD, early notice: they say March 28. I have a feeling all of us who are awaiting other UC’s but got admitted to one with notice before their notice date, will not get into any other UC’s. Could be wrong, but not real hopeful about CAL (Berkeley). UCSD is a dream school , as long as I find out kids can get their needed classes to graduate in four years.
