I was rejected REA at Stanford :(, but just today I was selected as an Intel STS Semifinalist, and I also recently became a Coca-Cola Semifinalist.
I've wanted to go to Stanford for as long as I remember - can I send a letter to the admissions office requesting them to perhaps reconsider my application, even for a moment? Stanford is my dream school, and I'm honestly willing to do anything to get a second chance...

Hey, I’m probably not the most knowledgeable here, but I thought I would give you my opinion. As hard as it is to swallow, this is probably it. Admissions decisions are usually final, and I’d be very surprised if an exception was made. That’s the cold hard truth. :(

Now that I’ve got that part over, I’d like to try and help alleviate the pain for you.

Getting into Stanford isn’t easy, by any stretch. You, and thousands of other kids are facing the same fate. Does it mean you’ll be any less successful? Absolutely not! I too want to attend Stanford, but I recognize that it’s highly unlikely that I will. What matters now, for you and probably me next year, is that you make the most out of your college years, regardless of where you attend. Of course Stanford has that weird allure to it, but you can make yourself equally, if not more content at whatever school you choose to attend. Think of all the people who have achieved incredible success without attending a top school. At the end of the day, all it is is just a line at the end of the resume.

It’s not the end of the world, you’re obviously an incredibly intelligent person. Maybe you were done an injustice in the admissions process relative to your hard work, but that’s just how things are and it’s unlikely that they will change. Once again, you’re not the only one who didn’t get accepted to Stanford, and it doesn’t mean you’re any less intelligent or potentially successful.

I know it probably sounds like a huge load of ********, but I really did try to make this sincere. I know I will probably also be equally upset when my decision comes a year from now, but I think it would help me if someone tried to encourage me like I am you. I know it’s hard to take, but I hope you’ll be all the better for it.

Generally speaking, only publics accept appeal letters and change admissions decisions. For privates, a no is, sadly, a no.

You will probably go to another college (and enjoy it), but if you really really REALLY want to go to Stanford, you can always apply to grad school :)

Good luck! While you should try, don’t keep your hopes too high :(
