You wrote your school does not have unweighted GPA but how many Bs and Cs do you have in all 4 years. I agree your essay does not say much so it could partially be the essay.

Mom2ck: With 23K+ posts, you seem to be in the know. Just curious as to where you get your info on this, how much info you have on this, and why you think this is? D has had this experience with a few of her colleges - lower stats but otherwise similar kids got in, she got WL. She can’t understand why this is happening and is disillusioned by the process :frowning: … fortunately she has some outstanding “safety” acceptances and fingers crossed she will get a few more acceptances next week.
You’re essay was very revealing of many weak factors. I don’t mean to be rude but I think it was the reason that tipped you into the reject pile so many times. I don’t think there’s anything you could do about it at this point  Did you have anyone read it before you submitted?

I don’t think your essay was that bad! It’s true the transitions were weak. But, I think it could have struck one admissions counsellor positively… you realize your flaws, have a passion, etc.

OK, I’m going to shoot straight with you.

Your essay made you seem both arrogant and far worse, boring. Before reading the essay, the reader probably thought: Oh, great, another Asian applicant who plays piano, tennis, is focused on sciences, gets a 750+ on Math SAT. So, let’s see if there is any “man bites dog” in this application essay, or let’s see if there is anything likeable, or funny, or interesting about this guy in the essay or letters of rec …NOPE, just another grinder who thinks the world revolves around studying.

To be blunt, I found your essay overly verbose and unnecessarily long. The tone was too casual and I came away really without a much deeper perspective about your character. I think that the essay did you in, or at least contributed. It also sounded self serving, a mere reinforcement of your statistics and scores. Now, I understand that it may have all been true. But I think it would have been better if it was deeper, more concise, and less school related. My 2 cents. EDIT: Also, Bentley is a very good business school. Northeastern, too. Consider that just because they’re not ivies, it doesn’t mean they are worthless. I would personally like to go to NEU.

^ “less school related”.

Exactly.

How do you know your essays were killer?

I mean I really liked my essay and I thought it was different but I would never go so far as to say it was KILLER and I got accepted at my first choice college (Swat).
