Rejected, feeling down..but what went wrong?

speaking about SAT and GPA i was referring to international students from competitve, non-English speaking countries, where a 2350 and 4.0 rarely coexists; and by “rarely” I am not saying there aren’t such instances…but i know a lot of near-perfect students here who ended up rejected, so perhaps perfection isn’t something Ivies look for especially in countries like this. You are right about the “hooks”. Without tragic stories and awards i should always be fine with rejection from Ivies.

I suspect your need for FA aid as an international ED applicant doomed your application. Why should Dartmouth take you? They have plenty of US applicants willing to pay full price in the ED pool. It’s likely that the small number of international applicants accepted also paid full price.

i agree, but Dartmouth claimed to be need-blind to internationals so i thought why not FA? LOL. I knew a guy here who got full FA from Dartmouth last year, but perhaps his application was way awesomer than mine.

@mnm101‌, Dartmouth claims to be need-blind when it comes to internationals, and I have no reason to doubt them.

Of course, if they accept only 10 applicants from a certain part of the world (out of 500 just as an example) and all 10 have hooks (athlete/legacy/major accomplishment/famous family) without looking at ability to pay, they would indeed be need-blind and the chances of a non-hooked applicant would still be about zero.

agree. chances are near zero

Yep. but hook is so rare isn’t it? without hooks it’s more a matter of “lucky” than “qualified” for internationals
