Rejected from Bowdoin, waitlisted at UChicago, do I stand a chance at an ivy league?

I applied to a few schools and as admissions role out, I’m getting more and more discouraged about the whole thing. My stats are “within range” for all of these schools, without going into detail, but I’m just wondering if I even have a chance at this point at some of the ivy’s I applied if I didn’t even get into Bowdoin or UChicago. I know chances were slim to begin with, but has anyone had experience in getting rejected to a lower ranked, higher acceptance rate school, but still got into an ivy league?

No offense, but these stories literally come up ALL THE TIME on CC. Yet, people still constantly make threads asking about stuff like this :expressionless:

So no, don’t lose hope just yet. Weird things happen in college admissions sometimes, you never know.

I know someone who was WL at UChicago last year and got into Yale and one of the lower ivies

??? Huh? UChicago’s higher-ranked and harder to get in to than some Ivies.

Being WL’ed there means that you have a chance elsewhere.

Yep. WL at Chicago is a pretty promising sign. Chi is extremely selective.

The above posters are right, OP. UChicago has about an 8% acceptance rate. Some of the ivies even go up to double digits (Cornell for example.) If you’re truly qualified, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. You’ll end up where you’re meant to be!
