Rejected from ED CMU SCS, can I still apply to CMU CIT???

I got rejected from my ED to CMU SCS. Can I still apply to CMU CIT for regular decision?

Thanks!

Did you only check the block for SCS in the application, or did you select other schools (even though they only consider you for the first choice for ED)?

I checked SCS as my first choice, and put CIT (ece/computer engineering program) as my second choice.

nope, CMU must have considered your application for both schools. i think you are rejected from both SCS and CIT

For ED, they only consider your first choice. As long as you talked about CIT in your essay, you will be considered for CIT come RD time. I would call CMU Admissions office just to make sure about this.

The only consider SCS because they only look at one school for ED. So you can still apply for CIT but I think you need to rewrite your essay??? I would email them because when you call you don’t really get clear answers.

Seto, laure is wrong, redsox and steelers are right (by the way, congrats, steelersngators)!

My son got denied ED last year, when he called they told him to rewrite his supplement essay only addressing the schools he would be considered RD for(leaving out all mention of the school he was denied from) and also to send them a letter asking to be considered RD for the other schools. He did that, and faxed it to them immediately.

Call them ASAP tomorrow before they leave on winter break! Ask them exactly what you need to do, if you don’t get a straight answer request to talk to an admissions counselor (who can look in your file and give you the best answer). You might want to ask if you can add a couple more schools to be considered to the list, too, though I wouldn’t count on a yes to that one. Good luck.

do you guys know when they leave for winter break?

No idea when or if they leave for winter break. The campus will be mostly cleared out soon, the last day of finals is tomorrow. Just if you have a question that must be answered, I wouldn’t take any chances, I’ll ask it as soon as possible. You can always call and ask them what days they will be in the office in December. They seem responsive, if somewhat overwhelmed.

Thanks so much everyone, I will definitely call them tomorrow.

I should have known this two years ago - DS clearly wanted SCS ED, and ECE in CIT was high on his list but not #2, so I told him not to do ED in case he was rejected from SCS but had to choose CIT. Red and steel, thanks for this info.

delete delete

I got rejected from H&SS, but I have a question. Can I still apply to another college that has an EDII deadline on Jan 1st? Or is that not allowed?

Yes you are allowed

Awesome. Thanks.
