Rejected? No Wait Deferred, No wait Accepted?

What the hell is going on with this school, it wasn't really a first choice and I really didn't show interest until they emailed me with a free app, so when I got rejected (I was missnig stuff first time around that didn't help), I didn't really care, b ut now I get an email and they want to defer my admissions, and after emailing a rep they said they are goign to review it again like soon and update me. I'm more or less just curious what the hell is going on moer than anything, but I'm not going to go out of my way to send them additional materials to convince them I belong there. My question is has this happened to anyone or should I just directly call the office and tell them to give me a definitive answer, although its not too high on my list I figure having an acceptance would make the process easier and on top of that the merit money I could use as levereage against other schools.

My stats btw:

3.9 Weighted unsure weighted
1380/2020 (730R, 650,M 640W, prolly retaking) Superscored, highest single setting 1350/1970 or something like that.
Good list of ECs, didn't have to fill out recs, and no essay AFAIK.

I'm kind of more or less just in a *** state more than anything, but now this deferral letter just seems like they are trying to correct a screw up or something.

Actually, there was an essay with that special application. They just didn't require you to write an additional essay specific to them (as you do with many supplements.)

ROFL was that IT!? Oh my goodness lmao I feel like a clown no wonder rofl.

Edit: I'm going to check if I did it, but I had to have otherwise they wouldn't have taken my app no? IDK I'm not too concerned, my teachers father is a college counselor he says it sounds like they kind of just made a slip up and are trying to correct it. I mean there wasn't even a mention of the previous "rejection" in the email I got this morning. Strange lol.
