So what is my best choice for bio major
USC(Dean's scholar)
UCI(Campuswide honors program)
UCSD (normal)
or UCB IF i get in

I'm hearing that UCSD, is probably the next best bet.. but I was wondering what you cc'ers think

Cal would definitely be a good choice, for USC Dean's scholar=full ride? if it is comparable to UCSD's cost it might not be a bad idea... UCSD definitely have a good bio program but the campus atmosphere itself should be taken into consideration too

USC dean's scholar is just 1/4 paid, and I won't get any fin. aid...
So, I'm really stuck between the 3/4, I had all my hopes vested in UCLA, and didn't do any research about the rest

dude... ucsd has awesome bio. unless berkeley is an option, i think the choice is clear ;)

UCSD!!!
Shamu>Bruin

UCSD has great bio programs, connections into the biotech community close to campus, the Salk Institute is adjacent to campus, and Scripps is part of campus but just down on the beach. Lots of resources there, but unless things have changed a lot there isn't much focus on population biology -- more microbio, cellular, & molecular bio, and a very, very strong bioengineering department. Add to that a location that is incredible, and weather that can't be beat. I'd be very surprised if UCSD's bio program isn't quite a bit more highly regarded than UCLA's. (I attended and very much liked both schools, but they're strengths are quite different.)

UCSD pretty much beasts Berkeley's Bio.

UCSD, I would choose it over LA anyway for the amazing opportunities in the biotech community that surrounds it and is very involved in the school.

i love how everyone only base their decisions on ranking... location, atmosphere never get into your considerations :(

Honestly, in this economy, future jobs and the internships that will help you get them would be my biggest consideration. 4 great years (what's great right now in your mind, not necessarily reality) vs 65?

is the gap between U$c, Cal and UCSD that great that you would pick UCSD simply because they have a better bio program?

^I think it's more about the job prospects in bio in the SD area.

It's about the intern and job prospects but also about the ties between SD and industry and the funding and participation of industry on the campus. It's an extraordinary education/industry partnership not often seen. If I wanted a career in biotech, Stanford is the only other school that would tempt me.

Plus UCSD is in America's Finest City. Not that I'm biased from growing up in San Diego or anything. Amazing weather, great beaches, and the biotech industry is very abundant and thriving.

My vote would be UCSD, since itsgraduate level Bio programs are ranked in the top 3 in the country... and that DOES filter down to undergrad. For BIO, UCSD would probably be a better choice than Berkeley -- not just ranking but also campus, weather, industry participation, and smaller size.

Hands down UCSD...go and enjoy, may be learn to surf while you're at it.

UCSD, but both are very good and very competetive in the bio depts. but UCSD has a few more options and a lot of med/research facilities close by. The top science programs in the country. Niece chose Cal (premed) over UCSD. She loved Cal for the school spirit and well its......Cal, but she now wishes she had gone to UCSD for MCD program. Much better than Cal. I guess it depends on what you want IN a school and what you want to get OUT of it. See which one has the best feel if need be and which one you want to spend the next for years at.
