Hey optimist6, I got deferred as well, but I applied to Harvard. I can't believe that they actually rejected a recruited athlete, that's almost insane. You look much stronger than the average accepted recruited athlete. How about having your GC call them and ask?

Well, first let me say everyone on here is REALLY supportive...after being shot down, at least its nice that other top students appreciate potential, so thanks....

second, I also had a business venture that I guess I may not have elaborated as much. I produced t-shirts and school clothing (completely legal) and sold more items than any other school apparel has ever sold in the history of my school...that's independent entrepreneurship, right?

third, my firend just got in early at harvard for wrestling. The two of us were the most sought after recruits from my school (I am 6'4, 250, D-end). I guess I just didn't make the cut for Penn.

fourth, I take to heart what a lot of people have said so far...that I think I have a good chance at other schools (Columbia was the second-most active recruiter, but I would rather play ball for a decent team that's not Ivy than play for the most defeated team in the Ivies). Regardless, I guess I have my options open.

fifth, and last, as someone posted earlier....I guess the only thing I have left to do is shake my tailfeather till april, haha

You guys have been great, I wish you all luck!

Have you contacted the coach? If you were being seriously recruited the coach will be quite displeased that one of his recruits (who has excellent stats) was rejected.

I didn't bother reading what other people wrote cuz the people before me felt necessary to write a book to answer your question. you've got pretty strong SATs, but if that's your GPA weighted, then your unweighted would probably be lower, and that might have played a large role. Also, you might not have shown much passsion to wanna go to UPenn. The MOST IMPORTANT factors in UPenn's decision are one's character, teacher recommendations, and the rigor of your courses. Your recs might not have been so hot and maybe u took some slack courses? Also, essays play a pretty big role, and they can tell whether or not you wrote it the night before, no matter how perfect you think it is. They can tell. When you start your essay the night before and start proofreading your essay that night for the 100th time, you basically memorize your essay and it seems flawless to you. That's all I can say. Good luck with your other apps.
