If I was just rejected due to money (being an international student) but I have suddenly gotten some more money to pay for college, is it worth it to tell the college and see if it might change their decision? It isn’t full tuition still, but it is still a substantial change. I was asking for about $30k before, now I need about $20k. Is it possible that they might change their decision?
All you can do is ask.
How do you know you were rejected because of money?
As far as I know, most schools either reject/defer you – or accept you, sometimes with a financial aid offer. They don’t tell you “We like you but you’re asking for too much in aid.” That’s not how it works.
It can with internationals. If you can’t prove you can pay [at non need-blind schools], you get rejected.
My rejection letter said exactly that, “we like you but you are asking too much money”
Yes…need aware schools your ability to pay is considered when your application is considered…and more often for international students.
But I’ve never heard of an international student receiving a rejection saying that it was because of insufficient fiances on the stusent side. They simply are not admitted.
For this student…he is still going to have to complete a certificate of finances that says he has FULL money for,the COA to attend this college…can he do that? Wothout that, no visa to study here.
My apologies. In that case, you need to contact the school with your revised need.
Just so you know, I received many rejection letters saying that they liked me but couldn’t give me enough financial assistance. This is actually a common thing with internationals seeking aid. Anyways, thank you for the help! I’ll contact them right away.
How did this $40,000 suddenly materialize?
You could try, but honestly $10k/year might not make a difference with most schools…Unless they have generous aid, providing you with $20k may still be too much. Do you have any backup schools? Merit aid?
“We like you but you are asking for too much money?” Really??
