Rejection Letters & Villanova

I’m not a BC person. It’s just alot more difficult to get accepted at BC-a #34 national university, than at Villanova- a master’s university, even if it is ranked #1. I think the posts in this thread will attest to that.

D1 got accepted to Villanova, and received a “lovely” rejection letter from ND that was practically a compliment. Writing rejection letters is certainly an artform.

National versus Masters has to do with what graduate programs are available. I don’t disagree that BC is probably a bit more selective since I am pretty sure they get more applicants. But the two have a lot in common. Both are about the same size, ne, catholic, homogenous and conservative (not that their is anything wrong with that). If I had to compare two schools, these two are about as similar as two can be. It’s like comparing swarthmore to haverford or Penn State and Michigan State.

Okay, I did a little research.

Selectivity Rating Academic Rating Number of Undergrads

BC 97 88 9,000
Nova 95 88 7,000
Notre D 98 92 8,000
Gtown 98! 92 7,000 (we rule! jk)

BC and Nova have the same academic rating but BC is a bit more selective. I would say ND and Gtown are peers and the flagships of Catholic Universities. BC and Nova are a step down and are peers. (I am referring only to undergraduate studies).

Think whatever you want and bring up the stats you want, it’s really not that important an issue to me that I care to debate any longer.

BC ND and GT are in their own league. Nova is a step down…

Actually, no. Look at the academic and selectivity ratings. Gtown and ND 98 selectivity and and 92 academic rating. BC is a 97 in selectivity but an 88 in academic rating (same as nova). According to Princeton Review (a good source imo) BC is a step down but is still an excellent school.

I have no ill will toward BC but I do think their alums think they are on the ND, Gtown level and they are not quite there. Not yet. The location of BC does make it desireable though.

^^ Only if you believe Princeton Review (NOT a good source imo, lol).

All rankings – by any source – are subjective, regardless of how hard they try to “quantify” differences, because there will always have to be choices made as to what factors to include and how to weight those factors.

I think what is more important is how the students who go to the school – and the parents who are paying for it – would rate it.

You can’t put GT on the same level as BC and ND.

I agree, gtown is a step better than ND and 2 better than BC.
