Rejection Letters

Congrats hsgrad.

Congratulations to you hsgrad! As for your friend, his SAT score is close to the 1960 mark. What is his score figured out using the formula that takes the essay out of the equation? Did he take it in the time frame required (October 2011-Dec 2013, I believe)?

Yoskis, sorry that you did not make it. At least you have some options. Everything in life happens for a reason. Had I not taken the path that I chose, I would never have met the most wonderful man in the world, and had the two DDs that I have been blessed with. Good luck!

We called NM the other day and they confirmed I am a finalist!

We are still waiting on D’s official Finalist notification. Realistically, there are no reasons we know of to be concerned (SAT scores and grades are great, no disciplinary issues, everything was sent in, etc.), but I 'd rather wait for verification than assume. Neither she nor the school have been notified of rejection. If the school has received notification that she has advanced, then they are not telling. I’ve asked. I called NM and they told me that they could not tell me and that we had to wait until official notification was mailed out 2/6. For some of these kids like my D, there is a big scholarship riding on this one designation. Just releasing a little “tired of waiting anxiety.”

@ohmmom That’s really strange! My mom encountered no problems with them. That stinks :frowning: I’m sure she will be a Finalist though!

@ohmmom I am national achievement finalist. My friends who are waiting on national merit finalist could not get the NM office to release their info to them yet. It is the same office for NM and NA but different release dates. The NM kids were told they would hear end of this week or early next week (I am not sure if that means at school or home). This late into it I think you are safe but I know the feeling as I wanted the official confirmation!

Ohhhh… I think I get it now. I am homeschooled, and my mom/principal called, which is why they released the info (b/c she is the “principal”). Sorry, y’all!

Thank you, EowynInk and hsgrad … It probably depends on who answers the phone. I’ll just have to wait another week or so. Congratulations to you both on your finalist status and good wishes for your college careers.

We too are waiting for official notification. My son has been asked to interview in a few days for a full tuition scholarship at a University that he will likely not choose as long as National Merit comes through. I think he would rather bow out and let other deserving kids interview. But if we have not heard, he is going to go through with the interview because if for some reason he did not get NM, then this school probably moves into #1 choice. I feel a little bad about this because some kid out there may miss the chance to interview for a scholarship that we turn down simply because the postal service is slow.

@brawny77, I think the schools either know or can find out at this point. I’d explain this situation to his GC and see if s/he can find out for your son. I think they’d be very willing to help you in this case.

Asked his Principal to call…He is a finalist! He is going to respectfully remove himself from the interview at the other school tomorrow. He is going to be a Baylor Bear!

Congrats, Brawny! Glad that all worked out!

@Brawny77 I’m going to be a bear too. Sic 'em!

What does it mean if I still haven’t heard anything? Are rejections still to come?

@Scoulson1 As far as I know, rejection letters have all been sent and received. It’s very unlikely that anyone who hasn’t received notification, good or bad, will find that they have been rejected. Nonetheless, it’s nice to know for certain that you’re a finalist.

Our school which is rural Texas, still has not received the written notification which was mailed on the 31st. Our principal called and explained our situation and they gave him confirmation on the phone. Looking for the real notification any day. Notices are to be mailed to the finalists homes tomorrow. Rejection notices were mailed weeks ago so if you haven’t gotten one of those by now, I bet you are in!

S1 is still waiting for notification. No school today and Thursday due to cold, so maybe Friday’s the day!

Has anyone heard news yet? Geez the waiting really stinks.

Yes. Some people just called NMSC to confirm their NMF status. The maill should some in tomorrow or Saturday.

Still no letter here in Ohio. (We are homeschoolers.). I did call yesterday and was told my dd is a finalist! I thought for sure the letter would be here today.
