Rejection Letters

Just checked school’s mail (I work at the school)…nothing…not surprising for it to take more than a week to get here considering how far out in the boonies we are but I am surprised some of you guys in schools near to headquarters have not received the notices yet. Probably they are sitting in busy principals inboxes.

“I also heard of one rejection based on the essay, which was apparently rude and critical of the National Merit program. (If that’s not true, it sure is a great story!)”

I know that @mom2collegekids said that she told this story on here, but something similar also happened to my father’s friend almost forty years ago- he made NMSF, but he wrote an essay about how he liked to watch TV and didn’t want to go to college. I’m not sure what the rationale was, but if it was to make sure he got rejected then it worked :).

Our counselor said that one year a student submitted it without the essay…just decided it was not worth the time and figured they’d probably get in without it. Of course he did not make finalist.

The rejections letters are for class 2015?

^^^ Class of 2014

Does anyone know when should we expect a projected cutoff for semifinalists Class of 2015? The final cut off will be announced in Sept. Any projections before that? Thank you.

Oh, projections are rampant. Just take a look at the threads specifically dealing with 2015. You will also see historical scores, which will give you a good idea for each state. You can play along, as well. But no one will know until the official announcements.
