We got a BIG Elon envelope as well. Now my D was sent her MT rejection letter in December but accepted into theatre. Todays package was from the admisssions/financial aid office. I deal with university folk in my job a lot and - like much of corporate America - there is little communication so I am sure the arrival is unintentional! As I said before, this time of year they are trying to make their overall university numbers. We all should not fret!

This is such a great board, and I have learned so much from everyone going through this and from those who have already been there. However, I must say that I have found it helpful to stay away during this time of waiting. I rarely ever check it because I get so stressed when I hear that someone has had a call or an acceptance letter. That is not to say that I am unhappy for those people, it just makes me constantly look for the mail, and run for the phone. A few weeks ago I decided to stop reading CC and if I must read it, then I only read the rejections thread (misery loves misery). It has been great to blissfully ignorant about which schools have sent out acceptances. Also, I no longer anxiously await the arrival of the mail--I make it a point to be GONE when the mail arrives!! I guess this is just my attempt to get a grip on my life--one that has been controlled by colleges, the computer and the mail man!!! Also, when I calm down and think about it, I really have nothing to be stressed about!! My d is healthy, smart and handling this whole thing better than me. All said and done, this really isn't so bad--there are many moms out there who are waiting beside hospital beds, waiting on test results and on and on and on. Well that is just my two cents! I wish you all the best of luck!

Well we just got my K's 4 MT rejection letter. It was from Baldwin Wallace. It was the nicest and most individual, encouraging and personal of the bunch. This is so sad and hard for us. We have two more to hear from, Otterbein and Indiana, but our hopes are really dimming. When we visited Indiana and K auditioned there on March 3, it sounded like the BA Theatre students were allowed to audition for MT classes, so there would be a good opportunity to have a lot of the same training as BFA MT students. Also, their productions were open to all students to audition for parts. What are other people's impressions of Indiana University?
k's mom

We have a friend in Indiana right now and she loves it shesin the BA program and I know she auditioned for the BFA but don't know if she got in. Anyway I've heard very good things about the program. I regret that we couldn't audition there. They did not have an NYC audition and we could not fit in the visit, all our weekends were booked and we just couldn't manage flying to Indiana plus I didn't want to incur any more large expenses, but I really do feel badly that we didn't get to audition. I believe it will be an up and coming program.

Indiana U is a wonderful music school with an international reputation. I cannot imagine it being a "bad" place to study musical theater, even if one ends up in a BA program.

I'm not sure of the reasons why she said that but I was speaking with her about
colleges for MT, and I mentioned something about IU, and she said "no, stay away from that school" and I didn't ask her why.

Rejected from UMich. Didn't care that much because I wasn't really planning on going there even if I did get accepted. The only sting is that I didn't get into a school of that caliber.

IU (Jacobs School of Music) has always been known world wide as a top music school. Their drama department is also one of the top. Many articles I have read have spoken very highly of these programs, and were very anxious for the two to merge. I just cannot imagine why it would be one to stay away from!! Wish they had started this program earlier...my d would have definately auditioned there, but her vocal coach at school is an IU grad which thrilled us!!

..okay, I may be a little bias...since I am an IU grad. :)

Still no word of Elon or SU, this is such a drag! So, maybe she'll still get in, does that mean that they REALLY want the the kids that they called and not the ones that just got letters or emails? This process makes me crazy!

Some info, if it helps, at the risk of false encouragement...S got his Elon BFA call late Tuesday afternoon. The letter didn't arrive till yesterday but was postmarked Wed. The letter does say there are only 16 slots and wants an accept/reject by 4/10. The way it was worded, you could almost think that they may have a waitlist but not necessarily tell the kids this.

On the other hand, at the audition they told everyone they would her something by mid/late march.

I anticipate S will make his decision by next weekend (Elon vs OCU). I've certainly encouraged him to move quickly for the sake of others. Good luck and hang in there.

The letter explained acceptance into the program is not tied to admission to the university. It did note that May 1 is the final decision date for admission to the University and the decision would not be affected by whether or not you accepted the program. It reads pretty clearly that the program offer ends earlier than that.

It makes certain sense to me...if you can get accepted into the school and still have other rules to get into the program it's reasonable that they could have an earlier date to accept into the program without keeping you out of the school.

Soozievt or someone else who knows: can an individual college/university department require a student to respond earlier than the national date of May 1? It would surprise me if that was the case.

NMR - It would surprise me too. I have been told by several schools that I have called myself that although they may ASK for something earlier, it cannot be binding until the May 1 deadline....so you could still change your mind EVEN if you accepted an offer.
