You guys keep up that optimism and can-do attitude!!!! Keep working and trying various avenues and you WILL get there.

I thought I saw a post awhile back about a school that had the "Wall of Shame" and another that had a coordinated "burn the rejections" day. Why don't you guys try to coordinate one of those for CC. Pick a time and day and everyone go into their back yard or patio or kitchen(?) or to your fireplace(!) and send them up in one nationwide (with apologies to Kaylagurl, who of course could particpate also) puff of cyber-smoke. Let that be the final act of the spring in putting this behind you and moving forward with a clean slate

Hey everybody..i finally got my wiatlisting letter from Otterbein in the mail :-)..and that was sent out forever ago..lol
I'm really starting to get worried now, my parents are already saying that im going to go to one of my schools that i got into for academics next year to do medicine...i guess they have just run out of faith..and i guess i can understand that because they had very little to begin with...so the talk in my house between them is about med school next year...which is kind of bringing me down and making me feel more anxious about hearing from these 5 schools...i just wish i knew that i was going somewhere for MT next year...and if i dont get in anywhere, i know i can deal with it and still continue..but right now...i just wish i knew :-(

when i went to the mailbox today, again nothing from schools...but i was so happy to see the letter from Otterbein although i already knew what was in it..lol...it is right now stuck on my wall right infront of where i am sitting now..lol..i think somebody had said, i think it was locomom...that she hopes that dr.john is lucky enough to be working with me next year....the truth of the matter is that i hope that im lucky enough to be working with HIM next year..lol :-)

so tomorrow....to kind of get my mind off of schools...im going to the beach, and renting a boat and going to swim with turtles and water skii...school is off for me...so i just need to get out of the house and away from the computer, all my friends have heard for places and are continually asking me where im going next year...and not having an answer isnt great...so i just need to get out...lol

thank you guys for all the support!..it really means alot to me :-)

Kayla, I too am thinking of you and hoping that you have a nice break this weekend! Big hugs!!!

WMonMTDad, what a great idea! Our own little letter burning party! Just make sure that you do it outside or in the fireplace with help from someone who knows how to open the flew! I'll ask my D if she wants to pick a day.

My daughter received her rejection letter from Ithaca yesterday. Her audition was in November, and since she hadn't heard anything from them since then, she wasn't surprised.

Sarahsmom -- it still could be good news. I know some people who have heard (in past years) VERY late from IC and been accepted. I also know some in the same situation who were rejected...so don't assume anything!

However, I must say, and I don't mean to be against Ithaca in any way (and I think I can say this given I have a child who applied and got in so obviously am not against the school) but I think that Ithaca is behind the eight ball. Truly all colleges normally notify by April 1. Students have until May 1 to make a commitment as to where to enroll. That gives them one month. But they can't fully do that if they don't have all their cards on the table. This is the month to do return visits, attend accepted student events and open houses, or even first visits, and to narrow one's list and weigh financial aid options and so forth. If one school isn't on that pile, then a student is going to move on in their minds and indeed has to. Time to weigh the options, do the visits, and file intent to enroll some place by May 1. If Ithaca hasn't notified some students, particularly those they plan to accept, by now, they are putting their offer in a lower position and not on equal footing. Actually, even if the letters are rejections, it is unfair to hold out past April 1. No need to inform before April 1 as that is the common reply date but at this point, it is later than the majority of colleges. It is April 7 and some of their decisions are not out. Students have just a few weeks left to weigh offers and submit their deposits.

If they are holding onto some and still deciding, then they could still send notification of even a waitlist offer. If Ithaca is waiting to hear some replies back before giving more offers, that is what waitlists are for. Truly this is very late and I recall stories on this forum last year of people not hearing until mid April. I think that is not in the best interests of their program and certainly not in the best interests of applicants. No obligation to inform prior to April 1 but surely now is the time. I don't really get it. My daughter got accepted to Ithaca in mid February and they only have 12 MT slots. I knew others who got offers around that time too....this was two years ago. I don't know if things changed or what but all other schools seem to be able to send out decisions by April 1 and then use a waitlist. Ithaca needs to get with the program, LOL. Truly it is a great BFA program but I think they should rethink this admissions notification trend I have seen the past two years. Not the greatest, in my opinion. If I were a candidate and had some offers, I'd be weighing them independent of Ithaca and would have moved on psychologically and if Ithaca came through mid April, it would be their loss to not have been considered equally with all offers. I think that is what could potentially happen for their program.

From Ithaca's website:
Each student who completes an application by the February 1 deadline will receive a decision by April 15 and be given until May 1 to accept or decline admission. Ithaca follows a modified rolling admission review process and begins notifying candidates of decisions in January.
They are using April 15 as their deadline for admissions decisions. That is far later than most colleges except the rolling admissions type of schools. That gives candidates just TWO weeks to decide and revisit if admitted, etc. By mid April, most are finalizing decisions, weighing offers and completing visits. It creates a situation where their acceptances won't be weighed equally with the other ones students receive. By April 15, kids move on psychologically and embrace their new school and they should.

I would certainly echo your comments. And while difficult, a quick look at the acceptance by schools list would affirm that, while anything is still possible, the odds are that the slots are full. I see 10 names who report they have acceptances into the Ithaca program. Clearly, there are people who haven't found their way to CC, so I would guess that even if they over offer somewhat to be able to fill 15 slots those notices are probably already out there somewhere. If the schools has a rep for being selective, looks to have most of the slots out there, and is late notifying it is probably best to begin adjusting your expectations. Also, (and you would know better, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) with notices this late I would guess that most of the merit sort of finaid is largely gone.

As a sidebar to the above discussion, I find it very, very interesting that such a large number of people HAVE found CC. Ithaca is not the only school that would appear to have a significant portion of the offered positions checking in...Elon supposedly made 23 offers for 16 positions and the acceptance list here shows 14 checking in on CC. BOCO and CMU, among others, show similar trends. I think that is truly amazing!!

As a followup to my sidebar...I have been fascinated by the similarity and the differences between the audition/acceptance process for the performing arts and the process by which graduating med students move into their residency programs. As you finish med school you begin to apply for residencies, interview, visit, submit your records, etc. The programs, of course, have limited openings for their residencies. As I understand it, at some point during that process the candidates submit a ranked list of the programs they want to attend. Meanwhile, the programs submit a ranked list of the candidates they want in their programs. There is a national clearinghouse that matches the two lists and on "Match" day everyone finds out where they are going. Much tension and stress, but at least you know exactly when you get the word and you know that everyone is at the same point.

With CC, at least there is the beginnings of such a list as people begin to checkin with where they applied and where the slots are filling up.

WMonMTDad....I can't draw any conclusion that Ithaca has already put out their acceptances because if they had, they have no reason to hold onto the rejections this long. Also, Sporti attends Ithaca College now (not for long, he he) and she says she knows people who got acceptances into April. I have no information to relate and so given what she said, acceptances could still be sent. Also, a total conjecture at this point....this is NOT factual....but maybe they are holding onto some people they are interested in and waiting if they get some who send back "no thank you's" for the offers of acceptance. But that should not be handled that way (not saying they DO that, as I don't know) because that is what a waitlist is for. I don't know how many they accept to yield 12. In my D's year, just among a small circle of friends, there was her and two others who got offers for MT at Ithaca who didn't take the offer. That's three (two from our state, one from another).

As far as what we see on CC....I agree there are a lot of people reading and posting here. It seems a lot of the CMU and CCM admitted kids posted. Not sure I agree about BOCO as they accept a lot and that is why you see a lot of names and it is proportionate. I agree there are plenty of accepted people who have not found their way to CC. :D It is hard to judge too much by the results on CC because it is simply those who opt to read such forums and so forth. Still, it is interesting!!

Still no word from Ithaca today. Maddening! They told me two weeks ago that her file had been "sent to committee" and that it would only be a few more days. Friday they said "today or tommorrow." Should I call again?

Sorry about your daughter Sarahsmom. That is crazy that they watied so long to rject. When did she audition? Did she apply for the BA as well. I am asking b/c my D is sill waiting for Ithaca but also appled for a BA> Thanks.

Sarahsmom, sorry to hear about the outcome. I still think Ithaca is notifying too late. My personal opinion. April 1 is the common standard. I think it is a bad idea to send acceptances mid April after applicants have already been weighing their offers and doing revisits. I also think notifying of rejections this late is not right when the common reply date is April 1 at colleges.

That aside, I still believe your D has three BFA acceptances and she's done well. I would imagine and hope that she likes those three schools because they were ones she explored and chose to apply to. Thus, she is lucky to have options. That is a good outcome. Getting into a top choice is not that common, though is nice as well. I truly believe a year from now she will be happily engaged in her college program and the admissions angst will be a distant memory.

I'm glad you and others have closure on the admissions decisions and can move forward to being in the driver's seat and making the choice of where to attend, and then getting excited about the adventure that lies ahead with college!

Obviously your D is quite talented as she got into some good programs. With the low admit rates, even very talented kids get turned away from SOME programs.

She auditioned Dec. 2. On the one hand, I'm annoyed at the length of time they took, but I do realize that when you audition 1000 kids, the logistics are going to be difficult! It's good to be in the "drivers seat" for once now that the wait is over. We may still hear from Elon, but if not, she's all set.

The logistics may be difficult but all other schools I know (other than Rolling Admissions) notify by April 1 (they may mail it on April 1). So, other schools manage to find a way to do this :D.

I agree that for all the seniors right now, they are in the driver's seat and the ball is in their court. What a nice turn of events to get to be the one who can choose THEM rather than the other way around! Have fun!

worst day ever...of this whole process for me.
my boyfriend found out today that he didnt get into Hartt....which is so sad. it was the last one he was waiting to hear from. and i already got accepted there.
he got rejected from ALL his BFA schools...which i cannot believe because i think he is so talented. this just goes to show, to me, anyway, how difficult and competitive these programs are. ugh.
he did get accepted into plymouth state...its a BA auditioned program...so that is where he will be going.
me? im not sure yet....but im really sad to know we won't be going together...we applied together to so many schools....hoping at least one would work out for both of us. :( i wanted to be with him so much!!
i will probably end up at hartt. its the only acceptance ive gotten so far...but i am STILL waiting to hear from syracuse and nyu!! im sick of this whole thing...! ick!
