KAYLA...with a positive outlook, you will succeed in life. You surely have one. Life has many turns and twists but if you keep working toward your goals, things work out, maybe not as you first thought or hoped, but good things happen. Pick up after whatever happens and you are doing the right thing to look into the opportunities you HAVE been afforded. Hopefully, even at Elon, in a BA, you can seek out various classes and opportunities in your field of interest. Everyone has to start somewhere. Keep learning and growing.

kayla - while we love Elon and the BFA programs, I'm concerned that you should carefully check into the BA in theatre studies before choosing to go there. You need to ask what you are allowed to take or not take. I just know that some classes are limited to BFA MT or Acting students and you would have to be in different classes. Perhaps you can take voice, but I don't know who the teacher would be. Also, the dance classes are wonderful, but my impression is that preference for signing up for classes is given to BFA MT majors and dance majors and minors. Some of the dance classes may be hard to get into.

You just need to understand fully what you are getting into before accepting it. You could absolutely also study science at Elon, for pre-med, and you could still audition for shows (but you would be competing with the BFA students). I think the theatre studies major might be perfect for someone wanting to teach, for example.

Thanks ericsmom...yea i know, i actually sent an e-mail today to somebody at the school who could tell me more about the BA program..i havent made a decision as yet..

I completely agree with what Ericsmom has said. You should check this out at ALL of your schools. A BA in theater at a school that doesn't already have a BFA makes this less of an issue. But at the schools you were admitted to that ALSO have BFAs, you really need to find out directly what courses you could take, if BA students will be cast in shows, etc. Put all this information side by side between your schools. When you said, "Boston"....did you mean Boston University? Check the options out at UMich, Ithaca, Boston, as well as to what a BA in Theater would entail and what would be available to you.

Hi All,

D found out yesterday that Elon would not be removing her from the waitlist. "We've had an overwhelming response and will not be going to the waitlist." She was REALLY hoping to get pulled up, and since she was the only girl on the waitlist, she thought that she might still have a chance. It was a sad afternoon and telling her friends at last nights rehearsal was not fun. They were all SURE she'd be going to Elon.
Kayla, D decided not to attend Elon as a general BA student because getting into the dance, voice and acting classes was going to be nearly impossible. They have had very large classes the last two years, (over their target of 16) and she was convinced that she'd be better off in another BFA program and then reauditioning again next year if she still wanted to go to Elon. You may find that some of the other schools on your list would have more openings. If you were in a city, like Boston, you would have a multitude of options for outside training in voice, acting and dance. Elon is a very small town and I don't know what would be available around there. Kaysmom's family lives nearby and she'd probably be able to give you some answers about training options. Sporti would be a good source of info. in the Ithaca area. Good luck, honey. You are obviously a very bright young woman who is very determined. There are many paths to a career in MT!

To Broadwaygirl89: My sister and her husband have taught masterclasses in acting at New Paltz and speak very highly of the program and it's director. She even suggested it to my son who is a high school junior this year. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality of the teaching. Congratulations.

Kayla,

Lea Salonga, also was pre-med she almost started school, but then went and auditioned for miss siagon, and look what happened to her. Everything will turn out okay in the end. I would personally stay away from Elon's BA Theatre studies because it is non-audition and the classes that you'd want to take are probably really hard to get into. Also, if you re-audition at places and transfer the performing arts credits will not transfer, so it'd be best to take as many gen eds as you can.
Something good will happen, maybe the path that's in store for you doesn't seem like the best one, but God has a plan and the best advice I can give you is follow that, especially if he makes it really clear.

Best of luck!

Amen Sistas!!!!

thank you guys!

Me and my mom are acutlaly talking about the Exploratory program at Ithaca, which would allow me to do a range of prgrams within the school. A woman called me from the school today and said that I could take voice and piano lessons with the school of music, and also take acting/dance with the school of humanities and sciences...and also do my liberal arts subjects..so im considering that.

Also,I just got a really nice e-mail from Anita Evans at Baldwin-Wallace saying that she encourages me to do the BA program there, and the Director of Admission, Ms. Bussert says that if I enroll at B-W for theatre, she
encourages me to pursue private voice study during the fall semester,
and then audition again for music theatre and she says that they would discuss possible teachers when I arrived on campus.

That is really nice of them, and i guess I still have schools to hear from, but right now that is what im considering :)

Thank you guys so much for the support

Kayla...things are looking up for you. There are always options. Explore them and figure which suits you best. So, now you are ALSO accepted to Baldwin Wallace for a BA? You already mentioned begin accepted to Boston (which Boston?), Elon, Ithaca, UMich for a BA. Compare what is available to you at each of those schools. You'll figure it out.

Thanks soozie...oh, and its Boston College...sorry about that!
and I actually never knew about Baldwin-Wallace, they just amde the offer just now, and asked me to reaudition...

everybody loves you. I wish I could see you perform sometime. Perhaps someday we all will.

KAYLA!! i tried to PM you back but your box is full!! clear some space and i'll send it :)

Congrats Kayla. That is really great, the news from BW. I know you will do well in whatever you choose to do. You sure have got the heart.

Received my rejection letter from Webster today. I guess it wasn't meant to be!

Kayla.....I encourage you to strongly explore Boston College!!! I had no idea you had applied there or gotten in there. Congratulations. It is a very selective college! Further, their theater department is very good. They have acting courses and dance classes in the department. They put on one musical per year, in addition to plays. Many double major in something else (your parents might like knowing that is possible!). Boston itself is a GREAT city to go to college in and there are many opportunities in theater. In terms of casting on campus, you would not be competing with BFA students.

IF you should decide after a year to transfer, you still could into a BFA program if you got into one. At some of your other schools, the BA students COULD be kinda a second tier when it comes to the program offerings and casting when there are BFA students and courses on campus. I realize BW is saying you could reaudition after a year for the BM program but there are no guarantees. You could always reaudition after a year even if you attend BC to any BFA school, if you want. In terms of academics, Boston College is a more challenging school and more selective than BW, if you care about the academic end (particularly if you opt to take any pre med courses). In terms of location, theater-wise, there is more going on in Boston than in Ithaca, NY or in Ohio, if you care. There are lessons and things outside of school in a city like Boston too. So, do look into it. I know kids who would be dying to do the theater program at Boston College! You have some options, yay!

Thank you durango and rocketlove..rocketlove im sorry to hear about webster..
thank you guys again for your support!

Sporti..i just cleard some..im sorry it was full, its just that i dont like to delet all the messages that people have sent me...most of them are full of kind words and support, so i always keep them there...but im kind of thinking i should print them now..lol

I want to add that at BC, you can take private voice lessons as an elective in the music department.

thanks soozie..i acutlaly talked to them today..but there seems to be a bit of a problem..because of the major i was accepted to, im not able to do a BA in theatre as it is currently full..so i have to wait...but it is a great school...i guess i really was never excited about it, cause i went ot visit it about 2 years ago...and just didnt get a good feel from it...but i dont know...its still there in consideration!

thanks soozie for the advice! :)...i guess everything will work out how its meant to be..
