Kayla, I know it's very late in the process to be suggesting this, but I've been following your journey for some time now.

Might I suggest Indiana University? I'm currently on the priority waitlist for MT at CMU, but if that doesn't come through, my plans for next year are to attend Indiana for the BA in Theatre which does not require interview/audition, and is QUITE strong. Their theatre program goes all the way up through PhD. degrees, and it's very notable. I had hopes of being admitted to their BFA program, and when I wasn't admitted to any of my programs, I decided that the BA in Theatre at IU leaves so much flexibilty for training.

When I met with Dr. Railsback, the undergraduate advisor in the Theatre Dept., we reviewed the course requirements for the BA in Theatre, and he informed me that there are 22 credits in the coursework that allow you to choose whatever outside fields you wish to do. For me, I decided that is PERFECT because I will be able to study Theatre AND Voice (in the Jacobs School of Music, one of the world's best), AND Dance all while earning credit AND training. So, as someone who thought BA in Theatre programs weren't as strong as BFA programs for a long time, I finally realized how great the BA Theatre option at Indiana University is, because you can really create your own program with as much, if not more benefit in both training and liberal arts education than a BFA program can offer.

The best part: Indiana University practices rolling admissions... After April 1st, the review applications on a space-available basis. So it's still not too late to apply if you decided it was a good option for you.

thank you so much for your insight! between now and the time you posted that..i called my school to ask for transcrpits and also i e-mailed the theatre department at the university to ask them if it is still possible to apply...thank you so much!

Kayla, like ElliottsMom, I am also a registered nurse. I have worked as a legal nurse consultant for the past 16 years, have very flexible hours, and make a very decent salary. Prior to that, I worked weekends in CCU - 12 hours on Saturday, 12 hours on Sunday, had all week off, and was paid full time with full time benefits. There are so many options available to you in nursing. My daughter is currently doing Cinderella -her wicked stepmother is a nurse at a middle school in town and one of her wicked stepsisters is an operating room nurse at a world renowned children's hospital. One of the techies working the show is also a registered nurse! I know it's getting down to the wire, but you have lots of options available to you, and still more schools to hear from! Keep the faith!!

The BA for theatre in Ithaca DOES require an interview. And it seems that they usually don't accept people who want to major in performance into the BA program.

Wow this is so exciting, Kayla IU sounds like it might work, I think my d may have gone that way if she she hadn't gotten into any BFA programs, we're actually still considering a program with a strong BA theater performance program. Keeping our fingers crossed. Keep us informed we're routing for you.

today i got a lovely friday the 13th gift...a rejection from syracuse. it's so totally fine, that i didnt even feel phased....ive pretty much decided on hartt.
my only issue is that they waited SO long to tell me. that was annoying. :P

I went to Syracuse and am from NH... Hartt is closer to Plymouth State :-), where is sounds like you b-friend will be... rejection is always tough, but it seems like maybe everything works out for a reason.

Kat, I never knew you were from NH! You mention Plymouth State from time to time but I just never knew you were from that state. It so happens that my older college daughter competes with her college ski team against Plymouth State and we see those kids every weekend at races in winter (most of the races take place in NH as well).

A long time ago, I was a teacher in Lebanon, NH, ironically in the same elementary school where my mother-in-law (who grew up there coincidentally) had attended. I am not from NH, nor have I ever lived there.

Anyway, VTBroadwayBaby and Sporti....you go girls on your successful BFA transfers...proud of my fellow Vermont women!
(I know this is a rejection thread....but even with success, comes many rejections, as you can see....or another way to put it is with many rejections, you still can be a success!)

Kaylagirl,
My d auditioned at Indiana for M.T. she fell in love with the program, campus, George Pinney, everything about it was perfect. Her first choice over CMU.

It was her first rejection. The B.A. drama seemed ideal at the time then she got into Syracuse BFA drama. Now she is prioty waitlisted at CMU (top 5)Drama. In so many ways a B.A. at Indiana is so much better than her other options. She could still take voice and dance while while studying Italian and spending her Jr. year in Italy.

I know my feelings are she would be happier at I.U. The Theater students we meet there were great. This a great choice for you. Good luck.
Not So Locomom

ok, right now im going with the BA Theatre program at Baldwin -Wallace until I hear from Indiana University, i sent in my online application..and im fed-x'ing everything else this week.
So i guess it may be between Baldwin-Wallace and Indiana...if I get into indiana. I talked to the BW and the private voice lessons would cost $500 ...and also if i am a theatre major tuition would cost $1500 less. Plus, they allow a double-degree program, and I would still be able to minor in music and dance and take dance classes outside the school...cause i dont believe they do alot of dance..so im thinking of that....but indiana is looking really nice..lol..but i dont know whats oging to happen... im also going to send in my deposit for Elon..just in case...and the admission MT person for Monclair e-mailed me today and said that he watched my DVD but gave it to another faculty member to weigh in on the decision...and when they figure out he will call me personally on Wednesday to let me know...so we will see what happens...
and after all of this, im still hoping that i might get off the waitlist for Otterbein..i would love to work with Dr. John!...
lol..:) thank you guys for the support..even though i got rejected from quite a few places, im really glad everything has worked out the way it has...im really happy and quite excited....even though i might at first when i got the rejections been upset..im really really happy that everything happened the way it did...so yay...God has a plan :)
thank you guys!

aww kayla congrats to you! I jsut toured BW as a prospective BA Theatre Major. If you pm I can tell you what I thought. I don't understand though, did you send deposits to Elon, BW and Indiana or are you jsut deciding between them?

DG i just tried to pm you, but your inbox is full...i would love you to tell me what you thought though...about the campus, surrounding area and everything, even what they told you about the BA major...thank you so much for taking the time out to let me know about it :)

I am confused by this. If schools encourage you to put down a deposit to hold your spot and tell you that it is refundable up until May 1, why is it against the rules? we were told by a school, after an acceptance into the MT program, that we should pay the deposit, which would be refunded if S decided to go elsewhere, because later in the year (April, May) as their accademic spots are filled, if you have not secured your spot you can be wait-listed and then there is no guarantee of getting into the school or the MT program.

I have seen parents write on this forum that they waited until late to pay the deposit because they were weighing several MT offers, and then housing was an issue as most school assign housing based on the date you pay your deposit.

We were encouraged by quite a few people to pay the deposit to hold the spot and then write and ask that it be refunded after a decision had been made as to which MT program S would choose.

I really think it depends on the school. I think some schools don't mind if you put down multiple deposits but when we sent in my daughter's deposit for CMU she had to sign a statement that she has not accepted any other offers of admission. We even received another welcome packet this weekend that said something to the effect of they could rescind her offer of admission if she has accepted any other offers.
