You're stressed; we get that. And we want to help you. Afterall, many of us are parents who have children at the very same school you are asking about. We may actually have some valuable insight into your request. That is why we stay on CC, to help you through this process as others helped us.

But here's the thing. If you repeatedly reply to your own "chance me" posts asking for more responses, we start getting annoyed. we don't see it as excited and ambitious, we see it as rude and self centered. Which we know is not you at all. The same holds true when you jump in on someone else's chance post and ask about your own chances. We know, you're just caught up in the moment and want to seize it. But don't. It's a little on the selfish side. You have your own thread. Be patient. And if you don't have your own chance post, feel free to start one. We'll look for it and try to help you.

Just so you know, in case we don't spell it out all the time, we are awed by many of your accomplishments. We know you will be successful at whichever school is lucky enough to get you. Keep up the good work, just fix this little glitch.

Better yet, don’t post a Chances post at all.

Your applications are in. There’s not much you can do besides wait at this point - as difficult as that is! Enjoy life - hang out with friends & family, read a book, explore some new hobby, do some volunteer work. Once you are at boarding school, you’ll be much busier making it harder to do these things.

Besides, everyone’s opinions on your chances are really meaningless. When the top schools are accepting less than 1/5 of the students, it is a bit of a crapshoot. Perfect SSAT scores and straight As are not a guarantee of acceptance. This is proven every year on this forum when kids with seemingly great credentials are disappointed and others with lower grades and test scores get acceptances. We don’t know how good your essays, interviews and teacher recs are - and most applicants are unable to give an honest critique of themselves and they don’t know how they compare to others in the process. The process is a bit of a mystery. The schools are building a community, so as it has been stated many times before, if you can bring skills (e.g. strong abilities in sports, the arts, etc.) or diversity to the school that may increase our chances. But aside from that, no one can really say. When a school like Exeter gets more then 2500 applications, they have plenty of kids to choose from.

Use this forum to ask specific questions about the boarding school process and life. There is a wealth of information and knowledge here but the chances threads are really meaningless. It’s basically applicants with no inside knowledge opining on other applicants.

Wishing success to all the CC 2010 applicants!

I agree with this, and I wouldn’t really believe chances I get just because although people may have honest intentions, some people just don’t know

The thread was developed for people to give candid ideas…although it is self degrading to post chances…I find it relieving of stress…i dont know i guess im crazy :)
