The pointlessness of chance threads.

I don't see why they still exist. You're not going to get accurate feedback.

coooooooool.

A remarkable epiphany; I think you have enlightened us all.

I’m quite sure most high schoolers on this site know MUCH more about the college admissions process than your run-of-the-mill “admissions officers”.

I bet every single CCer agrees with what you said, but still, everyone is allured by the chance thread. Either you’re way too insecure and just want people to boost your self-confidence or ego, or you are overly confident and just want to flaunt your achievements - these are the main reasons I believe people use CC for. But, they have it all wrong. Instead of spending endless hours on this website, trying to find out what others think of you, you should instead do something useful (although the SAT prep section of CC does wonders :)).

But elbeen did get something a little wrong. Although a little unusual, I have seen admissions officers post on these threads before (I remember one specific thread in which an admissions officer from Tufts commented on a specific issue).

And I completely disagree with PioneeerJones :)

Very true, JoshByron, very true ;)

Yeah haha the kids here misconstrue collegeboard data and USNWR rankings so badly it’s scary. Sadly, though, something is comforting to them about being told by complete strangers that they have a good shot at great schools, even if they don’t.

hahhaaa nyyankees2012 i agree with you! that’s what i’m trying to say. there’s too many CCers who believe deeply in the results of their chance threads. get a grip people

peer advice is quite priceless i think
they bring a viewpoint guidance conselours and teachers cant
being online too people will give their honest opinion and advice
instead of sugar coating stuff

Yeah Dorkoa, I think that’s how chance threads started out - with good intentions. But now they’re just getting ridiculous! “Your 2160 is too low, keep trying until you reach at least a 2300 or kiss your dreams goodbye!” I mean, really?!

haha that sound like something id see on my chance thread
but the truth needs to hit kids before April of their senior year when theyll be crushed
2100’s arent going to waltz into ivies unhooked so motivating kids to attemp to get 2300’s
is a benefit i think
