Release date of RD admission decisions

You’re the one who is overreacting. I’m perfectly sane over here. What school do you want to go to?

you should allow people to have their own opinions about the schools they applied to. everyone who applies to school SHOULD have a safety school. this in no way means that that school is a bad school.

I want to major in photojournalism and hope to go to a school on the East Coast area.

The perception of a “safety school” varies from person to person so its not fair to judge on an individual basis. One could be an URM or could have legacy and that could sway the odds to be quite a sure bet even at a better school. Although your standards are different, y’all should accept each other’s views and not criticize personal opinions…

Yeah, “safety school” is such a joke term, particularly because it implies it’s your “bottom choice.”

Based on my stats, American University should be my safety school, but it’s my number 1 choice!

Waitlisted, 2100 SAT and 4.0 GPA, wow.

what is your prospective major??

I was waitlisted with significantly better stats than my friend who got in from my school. I am guessing, they are looking very holistically. I’m not really sure. But congrats to everyone!!! :O)

Apparently, your anticipated major is also considered such that your friend may have indicated an interest in a major with more available slots. It is unfortunate if that is how it is done and they should really let applicants know choice of major can be a deal breaker. I expect many applicants are winging it when they note anticipated major. Ah well…

Does anyone know if Northeastern will also send paper mail confirming the decision?

@dowzerw & wowie

At NU, I believe that some programs have a 10% acceptance rate (physical therapy?) while others are in the range of 50-60%.

2100 sat 95 gpa…waitlisted to engineering? why?

Wohaaa some many kids waitlisted…how the hell did I get waitlisted?

1760 SAT
3.3ish GPA 88-89/100
31% out of about 700 kids

Damn I feel lucky.

How does the NEU waitlisted work?

First come first serve? Do they do another round of applications?

@Mr California I believe it’s just if spots open up in your program, they reconsider.
Not completely sure, waiting for someone in Admissions to call me back!

PT and engineer seem to be the hardest to get into.

To be honest, several kids in my school were accepted with significantly lower stats than many others with much better stats. I honestly don’t see much correlation at all.

hahah I’m a bit late to be commenting on photographyforlife and xAAAx’s lil convo there, but I have to say I think Northeastern is quite an amazing school. Who cares if they’re not as selective other universities, or if they’re most people’s ‘safe’ school? Stats aren’t everything. I was accepted to an ivy league - UPenn, and I’ve decided to choose Northeastern over UPenn just because it fits me better in terms of location, program, co-op options, clinical hours, etc. Really research the colleges you’re accepted to and don’t just throw one in the bin just because you’ve been accepted by a more reputable university.

That little spitting contest between Photo and AAA was unfortunate. As decisions were released on Thursday students were excited about their acceptance or depressed by their denial or wailist status. When Photo commented that he was accepted with good fin aid but would be going to a “better” school, it lessened the excitement of those accepted and rubbed it in to those not accepted. It was an unfortunate post.

Not that long ago, Northeastern was a safety school for BU applicants. This is no longer the case. Some students have posted here that they were denied/waitlisted at NU but accepted at BU, Fordham and Syracuse.

There is nothing wrong with being a safety school. Harvard/Yale/Princeton hopefuls may see Penn and Cornell as safeties. Northeastern is now somewhat of a safety school for Tufts/Brandeis/NYU etc. My guess is that in a few years, NU will not be considered a safety for those schools either.

It’s also worth remembering that just because your stats qualify a school for your safety, does not mean it’s the school you want to go to the least. ;)

Does anyone know if NU accepts some sort of appeal for scholarships?

^Most likely not for scholarships, but they probably do for need-based aid.

I got into the January start program and almost no money. It sucks and I don’t think I am going there. I am beginning to think NEU isn’t right for me. I don’t care about the co-op and I didn’t love the campus…

Does anyone know about the janstart program? Like why would I be put in it?
