release from on-Grounds housing contracts ...

ooh tempting offer in this economy ...

Though on such short notice I don't think it'll be very useful (and plus the IRC is arguably worth on-Grounds prices anyway...)

i said I was studying abroad…instant release~

For those who don’t know what gal is talking about (what’s new?) – Housing sent out an email today offering folks (presumably upperclassmen) out of their housing contracts. There is a housing shortage for transfers.

does anyone know where the openings are showing up? (or if theyre showing up at all…)
im on the transfer housing waitlist

I was so stunned by that email, there are always extra rooms in Gooch/Dillard or Copeley, etc. Brown usually has 14 rooms open. Are they seriously all full? I can’t even fathom it.

Wow…G/D is full? I remember db PMing me about her friend passing up Copeley and now he’s out of a contract. My guess is that they either had more transfers, or that because Hereford is now all first years, upperclassmen had to get moved elsewhere. Also, with Lambeth renovated, and Bice being so close to South Lawn now, both locations are ideal.

Crazy though…

Yeah it’s full and there is a substantial waitlist for it. Rollz, I feel that they would e-mail those on the waitlist as offers are made available. However, if you don’t get housing, I’m not sure when they’ll notify you. Regardless, I would have a backup plan. Look at off grounds housing and people looking for roommates.

Housing is completely full, and if you were looking for/considering an apartment, now is a good time to do it since there’s still lots of vacancy off-grounds, and you can get a really good deal in an economy that’s down the sh**ter

Agreed with Canuck. Right now, housing prices are at the LOWEST they’ll be all year, although they may even dip after August 1st when they realize how many apartments they have empty. Apartments are being turned over and since a lot of newer apartments have gone up recently, off-grounds housing is aplenty. You do not want to wait much longer to know about housing…I’d say have a decision made by August 11th (two weeks before school starts) with a contract in hand. That gives you a little over a week to start moving stuff in, and move in for good a few days before school begins.
Most places have a phone number or email. Start asking for availability.
www.brac.com is a good place to start

Birthday yeahhhhhh. :)

But thirding what shoe/canuck have said. Find an apartment now. And if your folks are like uhm, we want you to live on grounds, then ask them if they want you to have any shelter. I wouldn’t wait on housing. The vast majority of people are going to keep their contracts.

I hope they listen to us three…I feel terrible for the new transfers. Even if people wanted to get rid of their contracts, by now, most won’t. Ugh, UVa baby, get it together!

Definitely, I hope people realize that there are other choices out there besides UVA housing.

I would be living off grounds if I did not live in Brown, no question.
