<p>Well, I know several cases where students were admitted from the wait list with the coach’s support. Also cases where students were initially not admitted ED because there were applicants from the athlete’s school who had better grades and scores. The athletes were then admitted RD with coach’s support.</p>
<p>When you consider that Harvard.for example, has the largest D1 athletic program in the country with 41 varsity sports, I imagine the admissions office issues a large number of LLs. I imagine some members of the adcom may think that athletics already get their fair share of slots in a class of 1650 students. I’d be very surprised if the additional tier of supported athletes was across the board. Perhaps a program that the college is aware needs rebuilding may get a few extra nods? I don’t know, I’d love to hear more inside info.</p>

Yes, I believe there have been cases where coaches have been given a green light to recruit as many athletes as they felt they needed, so long as the athletetes were academically qualified.</p>
