I am looking for scholarships that are online (on websites) and that are reliable. I want to ask CC members that have been through the scholarship process because I have found a few, but I do not know if I should trust them. Please just list some websites and maybe your personal review/pros/cons. Thanks!

bumpppppppppp

Some of us don’t have a lot of faith in these scholarship websites.

What is your situation?

Are you just looking for one-time small scholarships to help pay for some small costs?

Or are you looking for a good amount of money that will help pay for 4 years in college?

If it’s the latter, then these websites aren’t going to be much help.

Most private scholarships are for SMALL amounts and are only for ONE YEAR.

How much MONEY do you need each year to pay for college?

If you need scholarship money to go to college, then apply to the SCHOOLS that give them. Those are usually larger and for four years.

What is your situation and what are your stats?

Well, like most others on this site, I am trying to get as much money as I can. I’ve heard that local scholarships are good to apply to. Is that true?

Any other advice is appreciated.

Yes, local scholarships are usually easier to get. However, again, they aren’t for much money either. They’re often for one year and only for incoming freshmen.

like most others on this site, I am trying to get as much money as I can.

I don’t think you understand.

If you’re just trying to get more money - but don’t really NEED it - then it’s fine to rely on private scholarships. You might get $500 or $1000 for ONE YEAR, so nice to help pay for books and such, BUT NOT ENOUGH to make college affordable because these are usually one-time scholarships.

However, if you believe that you will get gapped at your school or you have an unaffordable EFC, then you need to apply to some SCHOOLS that will give you assured scholarships for your stats.

So, what is your situation? Are your parents expecting you to get scholarships each year to pay for part of your education? Or, will your parents pay for all your costs, but just want you to try to get a few bucks from private scholarships??
