Scholarships websites?

I need some help finding Scholarships, I don't think i will recive any finacnial aid and i want to go to a really expensive school. I'm already on Fastweb : Scholarships, Financial Aid, Student Loans and Colleges which is really good. Does anyone know of any other websites that can help me find scholarships?

Thanks

The scholarships on those websites are labor-intensive to apply for, and the payoff will probably be small to zero. Most are for nickel-and-dime amounts compared to the cost of college. Many of them will require hours of work, with no guaranteed payoff. And most are for one year only; you need 4 years of funding. Finally, understand that almost all of the scholarship money in the system is dispensed by the colleges themselves, not by these sponsors of teeny little scholarships.

You’d be far better off investing your time in finding colleges that give generous merit aid, and then turning in boffo applications to those schools.

LasMa is right. FastWeb might be a fun diversion, but it’s not really where anyone pays for college. It’s only a free alternative to playing the lottery and you’ll probably have the same amount of luck. If I had to rank sources of financial aid based on likelihood of significant success, I’d put institutional merit aid first, followed distantly by local scholarships from your GC’s office, and then those big National Merit or Millennium Gates whatever scholarships, and then those FastWeb or Capex type websites where you type in your name and compete with millions of people in a glorified raffle for $100 scholarship.

thanks for the imput guys. But i got into my dream and my family has very little chance for financial aid. So i figure if i can write my name in a few places winning some $1,000 scholarship would not be a bad thing. and Lasma most of them are not labor intensive at all.

I agree with UltimateLayout. I got great financial aid at my school but I still need to come up with $7500 dollars somehow, and applying for several essay contests is better than taking out a loan, even if I get little or nothing back. If nothing else I’m using the chance to practice my essay-writing and application skills for local scholarships I have a better chance of receiving.

That said, I too would like info on any fastweb-like websites, if anyone knows of any others.

ultimatelayout and QueenBee: Then look for scholarships that are “renewable,” meaning they’ll pay out each year for 4 years without you having to re-apply. If you don’t get renewable aid, then you’ll have to go through this money-hunt every year of college. And while you’re poking around on the website, notice how many contests are aimed at non-freshmen, just so you know what you might be looking at next year and beyond.

Also, don’t let these applications take time away from your schoolwork.

Best of luck to you.
