Religion in college essays?

My religion is quite liberal. However, it is not heard of and is very important to me. I would like to write an essay on what it means to me and how it impacts my actions. It wouldn't get didactic at all. I would make no references to any potentially controversial matters (wouldn't even mention God I don't think). Just stick to the stuff like "helping others" etc. Obviously, Id be more creative than that. Do you think that that is acceptable or should I avoid it all together?

I’m talking about my religion. Like you said, it’s a good idea to stay away from controversial issues.

Colleges want to know about you. If your religion is really important to you and makes you who you are, I would definitely talk about it. :)

If it is a public college then the reader is forced to be unbiased (but chances are they probably will be biased like any teacher for a public school is).

If it is a private college look for it’s religious affiliation if it has one, because if it is religious then the readers are supposed to look for religion in their essay.
