Religion?

In unrelated news, I'm an agnostic.

And also a jerk, apparently.

Muslim, Shia

agnostic, at times more of an atheist.
i'm down with the unitarian universalists, though. :)

i'll admit i do find it borderline impressive that some people can have so much faith in something with no proof whatsoever (must be comforting). however, i'd much rather live like there's no paradisiacal afterlife and make this one count.

..sometimes, though, i do look around and think that there's no way we're all just an accident..

"..she thought there were no Gods; no one was to blame; and so she evolved this atheist's religion of doing good for the sake of goodness."

Why? Because he called the Pope and idiot? Since I'm assuming this occurred during John Paul's tenure as Pope, I can honestly say I don't find what he said misguided. That Pope's constant railing against contraception (especially in Africa), means that he has most likely singlehandedly caused more suffering in the world than the vast majority of people.

He may not have been stupid, but he was definitely misguided.

Starting a moral argument in confirmation class is rude and uncalled for. And if I felt like it I'd argue about the whole pope thing, but that's not the point of this thread.

I'm not catholic, btw

What is important is that these people think they are Christians, and get their (misguided) teachings from Christianity, and act as though there is no doubt to their Christianity. For all intents and purposes, that makes them Christians.

sure but there's levels to everything. You knew they were extreme. Most people know they are friggin insane. That's good enough for us, not everybody's insane because of small portion of people claim to be Christians(and they probably are, except they don't always follow the bible, just whenever they feel like). Just like some rednecked, racist, or sexist americans don't represent EVERY american in the country, these people don't represent every christian out there, especially when people have SO MANY different thoughts about their religions. These rednecked, racist, etc people are still Americans, and they don't represent everybody. You wouldn't like it if every foreigners thought you guys were this way, would you? (which some people do, unfortunately)

No Religion!

I definitely didn't start this. The Church I went to a was a little bit extremist- sometimes class was cancelled because all of the teachers and most of the youth groups were attending anti-abortion rallies. We all sat down to have a "discussion" about abortion and birth control. I discussed.

I'd almost like to delve into the whole pope thing, but you're right, that's not the point of the thread. Just trying to set the record straight- it wasn't like I just ran into class and started calling the pope bad names.

I have an odd tendency to be somewhat rude on the internet--it's a fault of mine, sorry. Still, from your point of view: is anything good going to come from starting a debate like that in confirmation class?
