I've been looking into Lafayette College recently, and it looks like a great school! However, I have some reservations.

I have read that Lafayette is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. I attend a Catholic high school, but consider myself an agnostic atheist. Would either of these details make a difference at Lafayette? For example, would the college "hold it against me" in terms of admittance or scholarship offers?

Also, how religious is the student body? I have no problem with religious people at all, but I think I would be uncomfortable in an environment where religion is a significant part of the curriculum or social life. I hope this makes sense.

My D is a new freshman at Lafayette and there is no religion that is part of the fabric of the campus unless you seek it out. No theology or philosophy classes are required. It appears to me that any church affiliation is historic and very loose. It will not impact admissions or your campus experience.

The only small sign of religion I saw was at the convocation for incoming freshmen there was a brief benediction given, but it was very general – more of a welcome and it was not tied to any particular religion. I wouldn’t give it a second thought.

Thanks, guys, for the information. I’m glad my faith (or lack of) would not be a big deal, because Lafayette seems like an awesome place to study. For those of you who are attending, how do you like it?

Absolutely love it. Professors are awesome and I get to do so much stuff, as an undergrad, it’s incredible. The liberal arts environment is very helpful (I’m an engineering major).
