Remedial Undergraduate Courses & GPA Calculation

Hello,

I was a non-traditional undergraduate college student. I went through a rough time during high school and dropped out, eventually obtaining my GED. I went to community college for two years before transferring and completing my bachelors degree at an ivy league university. My question is regarding remedial coursework I took at community college. With only a 9th grade high school education, I took several math courses and a chemistry prep course that were not college level. These are part of my transcript, and I was wondering if grad schools will include them while calculating my GPA. Any help and input, speculative or not, is appreciated.

Every grad school is different, so they will all have different policies. My guess is that most grad schools will not calculate remedial classes into your GPA, but they will look at the grades. This is one of those areas that I think it can potentially hurt but not help - top grades in remedial classes won’t help you very much, but if you didn’t do well that can reflect poorly on you.
